Meme Monday – Art Edition
Art ala 2020. I miss museums. A few years ago, I went to see an exhibit at a local museum with my dear friend Marilee. I paid for the admission to the exhibit, which was Degas, Impressionism, and the Millinery trade, and while we were in the gift shop at the end of the exhibit, she found out that the ticket price could be applied to an annual membership, and she paid the difference as a gift to me. I discovered that with that membership, I went more often. My step-mom, Julie, always gives me money for my birthday, and for the last couple of years, I have been considering…

Meme Monday
I’m so distraught about the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was an amazing woman, a gift to our country. But of course, the more difficult thing is how we go forward without her. Trump is going to appoint someone seriously right wing, I am sure, and McConnell is going to push them through the Senate. A few Republicans are promising to not vote on a Justice before the next Inauguration, should he lose, but I don’t believe them because they will be pressured and will cave, as they always do. So then what…then we go from a 5-4 Court to a 6-3 Court, and we are…

Meme Monday
This one made me laugh in that rueful way that one does with such things. Blah, 2020 sucks. I fear 2021 will not be any better, but perhaps with a new President, we will at least have hope again. Anyway, it’s a double meme day. You get the picture meme type up above, and now an old school blog meme here. Copied from Facebook, of course, but since none of my blog readers are my friends on FB, you can’t see it if I don’t share it here. 22 random facts about me: 1. Do you make your bed? Always, unless Ted does. I work from home and we have…

Meme Monday – Hair Edition
I GOT MY HAIR DONE!!!! My hair is somewhat high maintenance…color, highlights, trim. Also, somewhat low maintenance, because it is long and I don’t have bangs, so I don’t have to worry about the shape as much as if it were shorter. I last had my hair done professionally in mid-March, right before California went on lockdown. I’ve done a couple of Clairol ‘Root Touch Ups’ since then, which make me feel a LOT better, but still don’t look great. Our salons opened for a few weeks in July and then closed again. I was not sure I wanted to be on the front line of that experiment, thought I…

Meme Monday – Video Edition
Pandemic – Trapped at Home Edition. Not technically a meme, but all of the memes I came across this week were kind of depressing, and I needed a smile, and this gave me one. I hope she gives you a smile too.

Meme Monday – Bay Area Edition
Exciting new feature! In an attempt to come here a bit more often, I will post some meme or another every Monday. It may have commentary, it may not. We’ll see how long it lasts. Saturday I woke up to exactly the feelings expressed in the meme above. I was bored and depressed, and it looked very much like the highlight of my day would be pushing back my cuticles. Of course, the fact that we are safe in our home, unlike friends who have had to evacuate from the fires, means that I am just bitching and should probably shut up. But yeah, it got me down. During this…

Another Meme
Another picture from our trip to France last year. Not positive who the artist is, but it looks like Van Gogh to me… Anyway, feeling lazy, but wanting to post SOMETHING just to make me think about blogging and perhaps encourage myself to blog more…so, here’s a meme, that I got from my friend Carla on Facebook. Just a list, and the answers must start with the FIRST letter of your LAST name. I’m not going to overthink it, just use the first one I come up with. Probably I could come up with funnier, more original answers if I tried. Animal…………………Antelope Girl’s name………….Alice Boy’s name………….Arthur Color……………………Aubergine Food…………………….Artichoke Drink……………………Absinthe Reason…

Meme Monday
(I don’t have a caption for the picture…it’s a beautiful picture that Maya took at the Musee D’Orsay in Paris last summer, but I don’t know the artist. I just like it and thought I would share it with you.) Thankfully, Nance did a meme a few weeks ago, or perhaps August would have escaped me without a blog post. So, without further ado, here we go. J is: Wearing: Capris and one of my NYDJ tops. It’s my summer uniform. I love the tops because they are light and loose and do not make me feel gross and sweaty in the summertime, which I hate. Also slippers, as my…

Monday Meme
Quick Monday Meme: Love/Hate Relationships (thanks Nance) What song/kind of music always makes you feel good/irritated? I love the Beatles White Album. Esp. Dear Prudence and Rocky Racoon. If I could just please go the rest of my life without hearing Debbie Gibson, I would be happy. What are among your best/worst traits? I’m generally kind and empathetic. I am also a good cooker. (Maya’s term when she was little) I think empathy can make me a bit wishy washy, as I can see the other point of view easily. What food did you used to like but now you don’t? I won’t go so far as to say that…

Looks Like it’s Time for a Meme…
I came across this meme on my friend Carla’s blog, and I thought I’d bring it over here. I’ve read some good books I could tell you about. I went to see my Grandma again, and I could tell you about that. I could even dredge up some thoughts on the horrid flooding in Texas and the horrid drought here, and tell you how it doesn’t rain in California this time of year, so if we DO get any, it will be tiny amounts and not help in the greater sense at all. No real rain until September if we’re lucky, more likely November or December. But no, all you…

Book Meme
I grabbed this one from Facebook, and I wrote about it there, so if you’re a FB friend, you’ve already read (or ignored) this. I believe I’ve written about all of these books here before, but man, they’re worth it. So I’m writing again. Here’s the meme. Rules: In your status line, list 10 books that have stayed with you. Don’t take more than a few minutes; don’t think too hard. They don’t have to be great works, just the ones that have touched you. The Blood of Others ~ Simone de Beauvoir. (something about reading this one and then seeing “Glory” hit me kind of hard back in college.)…

Monday Meme – 48 Things
I saw this one over at Issa’s place, and shockingly enough, I don’t think I’ve answered more than 10 of these here before. So, in the spirit of over sharing, here we go. 1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Yes. My great aunt was SO amazingly important to my mom. She took her in when she was having trouble at home, made her feel like there wasn’t anything wrong with her after all, encouraged her that life in college would be far better than life in high school had been. Sadly, she died before I was born, so I never met her. Her name was Julia, but she hated…

The “Reader Appreciation Award” Meme
Ally from The Spectacled Bean has tagged me for a meme. I’m supposed to answer the questions, then tag those of my readers who comment, and they can answer the questions on their blogs, and send it forward, and so on. I don’t have a problem answering the questions, though I’ll confess the book ones were a little difficult. I do have a problem tagging, because I don’t know if my most loyal commenters are likely to want to do a meme or not. Let’s start with the questions, and see where we get from there, shall we? :: The Questions :: Where do you do most of your writing/blogging?…
