  • Meme Monday – Rudolf and Santa

This is the year when it all comes out, I guess, when we finally get to talk about what jerks Santa and the other reindeer are in the TV show, and to a somewhat lesser extent, the song. I saw Nance discuss it on her blog, in a discussion with her husband. I’ve seen it on Facebook several times. And now there’s a meme. Well, actually, I’ve seen a couple of memes about it. Just like #Metoo and #BlackLivesMatter, though, isn’t the reality that it has NEVER BEEN OK? NEVER? Hasn’t it always been shitty how poor Rudolph was treated? Hasn’t it always been shitty that every woman you know…

  • Meme Monday – Back to Lockdown

I posted this meme on Facebook last year after reading Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk, which is a great novel that I really enjoyed, about an 85 year old woman meandering her way to a party in New York on New Year’s Eve, 1984. Ms. Boxfish was a very talented ad woman for Macy’s in the 1930s, and the character is based on the real-life ad woman, Margaret Fishback. Facebook likes to remind you of things you posted on this day in history, so this popped up, and I decided it’s a meme, and it sums up the whole feel of Shelter in Place (SIP) so perfectly. Speaking of Shelter…

  • Meme Monday

Sorry for that meme, but yeah, we all feel that way sometimes, right?  I saved it for you awhile ago, and was reminded of it while out running errands with Ted the other day, when cut off by someone who then stopped short to turn into a driveway, of course without signaling.  Sigh. I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving.  We did.  We went out to Ted’s parents house, just us 3, his parents, and his brother.  We worked on being safe and socially distanced, and hopefully none of us had anything to pass around.  We’ll see in a few weeks whether that worked or not.  Other than the…

  • Meme Monday

Mostly just the meme today, since I told you everything that I was going to do over the weekend, and now it’s Monday and I have to work and get things under control there. A few notes… In Stockton yesterday, we stopped to get BLTs for lunch with my Great Aunt, and there was some kind of Christmas festival going on in the shopping center. So we saw some sheriffs deputies on horse back, and Santa on a firetruck. I looked it up later and there were also reindeer to pet, and a snow machine (it was 70 degrees) for the kids. Seems like a really bad idea in the…

  • Meme Monday – Weird Junk Food Version

I can’t even with the election tomorrow, I’m afraid I will grind through my mouth guard if I get any more stressed out about it. So I’m taking a deep breath and showing you some food products that I have seen (mostly) at the grocery store. I was at the drugstore the other day, and I spotted these very strange Apple Pie flavored KitKats. I don’t really like white chocolate, and the entire idea of this makes me want to throw up a bit, so no. But I took a picture for Ted, who loved KitKats back when his body still tolerated such things, especially the ones from England. Then…

  • Meme Monday

I guess we’re not in quarantine anymore, based on the fact that my daughter is going in to the office, and restaurants are open (25% capacity for indoor dining), so likely I waited too long to use this meme. However, who knows, at the rate we’re going, perhaps we’re going to be shut down again. This time it’s the Midwest that’s under attack from the virus, where both of my readers live, so gosh you NE Ohio people, keep being careful! I don’t actually worry about you too much, I know you’re both very sensible. I don’t know what else to say other than why can’t we get our act…

  • Meme Monday – Miscellany

We’ve all done this around here…the worst was the time I got all of the way to the grocery store and then had to come home and get my mask. The store isn’t too far from my house, but still, I was on my lunch hour, so it was annoying. As disposable masks became more available, we got smart and started keeping some in the car and in my purse. I’m hopeful that this will be a light flu season, as so many people are washing hands better and wearing masks and not congregating and so on. We got our flu shots, just in case. We’re not getting new cabinets,…

  • Meme Monday

I’ll probably dive down into the depths of the shit storm of 2020 next week, but for now, wanted to lighten up a bit. So, here it is… We had a lovely weekend. Saturday was errands, including Bed Bath and Beyond, because our electric kettle broke. Ted got a new cookbook, Indian-ish, and made us a delicious dinner. He’s been watching the author’s videos on YouTube, and really likes her. She worked for Bon Appetit for awhile, and made some videos of recipes for them. She mostly seems to credit her mother’s recipes, which as a mother, I like. It’s Indian fusion, and so far really good. We’ve had a…

  • Meme Monday – COVID Edition

“They were careless people…they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.” ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby Frankly, I’m surprised that it took this long for Trump and his cronies to catch COVID. How did they prevent him from getting it for so long? I can only assume that there are some people in the White House that actually believe in science and have done their best to force him to be safe. Eventually his bravado and jack-assary got the better…

  • Meme Monday – Art Edition

Art ala 2020. I miss museums. A few years ago, I went to see an exhibit at a local museum with my dear friend Marilee. I paid for the admission to the exhibit, which was Degas, Impressionism, and the Millinery trade, and while we were in the gift shop at the end of the exhibit, she found out that the ticket price could be applied to an annual membership, and she paid the difference as a gift to me. I discovered that with that membership, I went more often. My step-mom, Julie, always gives me money for my birthday, and for the last couple of years, I have been considering…

  • Meme Monday

I’m so distraught about the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was an amazing woman, a gift to our country. But of course, the more difficult thing is how we go forward without her. Trump is going to appoint someone seriously right wing, I am sure, and McConnell is going to push them through the Senate. A few Republicans are promising to not vote on a Justice before the next Inauguration, should he lose, but I don’t believe them because they will be pressured and will cave, as they always do. So then what…then we go from a 5-4 Court to a 6-3 Court, and we are…

  • Meme Monday

This one made me laugh in that rueful way that one does with such things. Blah, 2020 sucks. I fear 2021 will not be any better, but perhaps with a new President, we will at least have hope again. Anyway, it’s a double meme day. You get the picture meme type up above, and now an old school blog meme here. Copied from Facebook, of course, but since none of my blog readers are my friends on FB, you can’t see it if I don’t share it here. 22 random facts about me: 1. Do you make your bed? Always, unless Ted does. I work from home and we have…

  • Meme Monday – Hair Edition

I GOT MY HAIR DONE!!!! My hair is somewhat high maintenance…color, highlights, trim. Also, somewhat low maintenance, because it is long and I don’t have bangs, so I don’t have to worry about the shape as much as if it were shorter. I last had my hair done professionally in mid-March, right before California went on lockdown. I’ve done a couple of Clairol ‘Root Touch Ups’ since then, which make me feel a LOT better, but still don’t look great. Our salons opened for a few weeks in July and then closed again. I was not sure I wanted to be on the front line of that experiment, thought I…

  • Meme Monday – Video Edition

Pandemic – Trapped at Home Edition. Not technically a meme, but all of the memes I came across this week were kind of depressing, and I needed a smile, and this gave me one. I hope she gives you a smile too.
