Road Trip Weekend

Us at Dinner

(front row: Liz, Tracy, and Cherry; back row, me and Dorothy)

One upside of blogging is the wonderful people that you meet, and how they can go from being just comments on your blog to being people that you genuinely care about, and sometimes, people that you get to meet in person.  Cherry, Liz, Dot, and I were friends before we started blogging.  We used to work together in a previous life, and happily, we’ve stayed friends all these years later.

We’ve made friends with Tracy and Gina through blogging, and we’ve been fortunate enough to meet them in person.  Cherry and I went to Tracy’s wedding shower, and Cherry went to her father’s funeral, as well as visiting her when on a trip to SoCal.  Tracy came up to San Francisco a few months ago, and we had a wonderful lunch with her.

Gina came up to San Francisco with her husband a few years ago, and Dorothy, Ted, and I went and met them in Berkeley for breakfast.  It’s so wonderful to meet people in person that you previously only knew online…though it felt awkward to me before I actually met them, once we saw each other and said hello, we realized that we actually do know each other, and it felt like the most natural thing in the world.

Anyway, Tracy is an actress, and is moving from Los Angeles to Houston as we speak.  Before she left L.A., she was in a stage production of Our Leading Lady.  This was her closing weekend, so Cherry suggested that we drive down and see her perform.  What a great idea!  (Though I wasn’t sure I wanted to go at first…it’s about 6 hours from here to there, and the idea of driving 6 hours on Saturday and again on Sunday was daunting.)  I’m so glad that Cherry suggested it (and planned it) and that I reconsidered my initial reaction, because we had a wonderful time.  Sitting in a car all day still isn’t my idea of a good time, but if you have to do it, I had a good group to do it with.

So we drove down, checked into our hotel, went to dinner with Tracy and her good friend Kelly, and then to the play.  It was fun to see the play, and Tracy shone in her role as Clementine.  We weren’t quite ready to say goodbye yet, so we went to Denny’s and had ice cream for dessert.  FUN!  But between that and the time change, it was 2am when we went to bed.  Yawn.

Up at 7:30 to meet Gina for breakfast pancakes.  Yay pancakes!  Gina is a wonderful and fun gal, and we were so thankful that she made the drive up from her part of LA to see us.

Ladies at the Beach

(Liz, Dorothy, Cherry, and me)

Then we stopped at the beach, as Tracy and Kelly had spied some whales the night before.  We didn’t see any whales, but we did see dolphins, so much closer to the shore than I would have imagined.  It was a wonderful way to say goodbye to L.A.   The other ladies would have loved to stop and spend the day at Disneyland, but the thought gave me the heebies, so we came on home.  Sorry ladies, I am a fun killer.  Next time maybe we’ll do Disneyland AND Anderson’s Split Pea, OK?
