Misc. Thoughts…

(I found this odd apple image at http://princev.front.ru)

Maya’s come home from Science Camp. It is SO nice to see her…to hug her and hear her stories. They took hikes, sang songs, went to the ocean, checked out tidepools, saw tons of stars, and Maya won the title of “Hard Core” by eating an entire apple, stem, seeds, and all. Atta girl.

Watched “The Queen” the other day. It was good. It was interesting to see a bit of what maybe went on in the royal family at that time. I came away with a feeling of, ‘wow, I’m glad I’m not part of THAT messed up family.’ And while I thought it was good, I didn’t think it was as GREAT as the reviewers seem to. Oh well.

Tried to watch “Stranger Than Fiction“, but I couldn’t muster up the interest. Too boring. Maybe it was good, but I guess I wasn’t in the mood. Has anyone seen this that loved it?

Lost – Did anyone else besides Ted and me (and he brought it up, so I’ll give him credit) wonder why Charlie didn’t at least TRY to fit out the little port hole, instead of drowing, per the whole ‘destiny’ thing? Anyone else think maybe, just maybe, he’s still alive? Probably not, but it’s a shame. And what’s with Walt? And WHO was in that coffin? I hope it was Ben. I like to think of him dying, and no one showing up for the viewing. I kind of wonder if maybe it was Juliet. But at least her sister would go to her funeral, right? Hmmm. And now I see that kookiejar has a picture of the newspaper clipping, and there’s a lot of evidence that the dead person might be Michael…Why would Jack care so much? Maybe in the future (well, our present) everyone has been dying off, one by one, and the stress of it is getting to Jack? This is enough to drive one insane. Poor Jack. He was a wreck. I can’t believe we have to wait until January for more. Ugh.

Heroes – Ted seems to think that Peter will somehow survive the blast. I think Claire stayed dead until the cause of death was removed…and it’s unlikely that Peter’s remains could be close enough to gell together. Who knows. They should have shot him. Then they could remove the bullet and he’d be alive.

My book – Half of a Yellow Sun – So many parallels to the movie I watched recently – Earth. The divide and conquer method of the British, and the horrid after effects. It’s a stunning book. I’m about 1/2 way through, and now that all of my shows are off of TV, with only Curtis and real estate shows to keep me company, I’m guessing I’ll get more reading done.

Three day weekend. Can I hear an “AMEN” please? Yes, I thought so. Take a moment from your bbq on Monday to remember those who died in the service of our country. (I actually heard a pretty interesting program on this very subject on the way to Pescadero to pick up Maya. If you’re interested, you can hear it, here: http://www.kqed.org/programs/program-landing.jsp?progID=RD19 It’s FORUM, a show on our local PBS station, and the episode is “Military Service and Its Alternatives”, talking about how the military families are bearing the weight of this war, while the rest of us go on our merry ways with no sacrifice, no service. Check it out.

Enjoy the long weekend. See you on Tuesday, if I can make it that long without blathering about SOMETHING.

You know, SW, I read a couple of reviews later on, and I think it was mislabled, and I thought it was going to be a silly comedy, which was what I was in the mood for at the time. But they, like you, said it was really good, so I think I will give it another try. 🙂

I think Helen Mirren portrayed the Queen with so much humor and pizzazz. Not cold and detached as what the public had perceived the real queen to be. I liked this movie. Very british without getting silly.

    Have a nice long weekend!

I’m with SW on this one. It was an excellent movie and maybe everyone has preconceived notions of my beloved Mr. Farrel. Although it has a Hollywood ending, it could be seen as a metaphor for other things- I think anyone who has known someone or who has struggled with mental illness will be moved.

I loved “The Queen” I thought that Helen Mirren was amazing. And some parts of it made me giggle.

As far as a whole apple, that is indeed Hard Core!

I loved The Queen, too. It was as if Helen Mirren was channelling Queen Elizabeth. I enjoyed getting the opportunity to peer into what may have gone on behind closed doors.

    Have a good Memorial Day!

Re: Heroes. Remember in the episode that took place in the future, Peter exploded and still managed to survive. He had that nasty scar that I think happened because he couldn’t pull all his parts together in just the right way. I think he’s fine. Nathan, however, is a goner. But I’m alright with that.
