Favorite Songs Meme

I got this one from Ginger over at Stuck on Survive. I don’t have any great ideas today…lots of work to do, and Maya’s birthday is tomorrow, so stuff to do there as well. 🙂 So, when in doubt, Meme, right? Here goes.  The thing is, I’ve done a few music memes before, so some of these aren’t new.  And for some, I’ve changed my mind, and probably will again before you even read this.  Oh, and I’m not claiming these are the best or the coolest choices…just songs I really like.  Anyway, here goes.
Favorite Songs Meme

Favorite Song From Childhood: Cecilia, by Simon and Garfunkle. I thought the lyrics were “Oh Mallow Ma Knee, Oh Mallow Ma Knee”, and I would belt them out with gusto.

Favorite High School Dance Song:
I honestly don’t remember. I didn’t go to many high school dances. I’m going to say Girls Just Want to Have Fun, by Cyndi Lauper, because that would be a fun one to dance to with your girlfriends.

Senior Class Song: I don’t know if we had one…I’m going with Sister Christian, by Nightranger, because the video was about graduation. But really, I don’t think we had one. Our whole THEME was apathy, I mean, we never gave a shit about anything, and didn’t even have a 20 year reunion, so why would we have a song?

Song That Makes You Think of College
: College is broken in two for me…the Stockton years (1&2, when I was in Jr. College) and the San Francisco years, when I was at San Francisco State University. For Stockton, I’m going to say anything off of the Head On the Door CD, by the Cure. LOVED that CD to death. Still totally love it. For San Francisco, it would be New Order, or maybe Lips Like Sugar, by Echo and the Bunnymen. That song always makes me think of my first semester at SFSU.

Favorite Rock & Roll Song:
This is hard.  I like a lot of Rock…David Bowie, The The, The Police…gosh, I could go on.  I guess it’s more of a favorite Rock song of the moment, or mood.  Since the Police are reuniting, I’m going to say Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.  Or maybe I’ll skip that and say I really like Mirror in the Bathroom, by The English Beat.

Favorite Disco Song:  I’m really not a huge disco fan.  I’m going to go with the one that gets me going every time, Comfortably Numb, Scissor Sisters version. (SO obviously not the Pink Floyd version.  Because duh, that’s NOT disco.)

Favorite Country Song: Sun Comes Up, It’s Tuesday Morning, Cowboy Junkies – This is funny to me, because Ginger put this song on her Rock list, and for me, it’s Country. I guess that’s the difference between a true Country fan (Ginger) and an almost no country fan like me.

Favorite Pop Song: Hmmm.  Maybe Lovers In a Dangerous Time, by Bruce Cockburn.  Or anything by the Beatles.  Or maybe some INXS.  I like a lot of Pop.

Favorite All Time Love Song: Romeo and Juliet, Dire Straits.  I know, you knew that one already.  Sorry.

Favorite Break Up Song: Keep Me Hanging On, Kim Wilde version. I know. Again, sorry.

Favorite Slow Dance Song:
I Left My Heart In San Francisco, Tony Bennett. How you gonna beat that? Esp since we were just falling for each other, and both had already fallen hard for our City by the bay.

Song That Always Makes You Cry: Runaway Train, by Soul Asylum. Gets me every dang time. I think it’s the video. Those poor kids and what hell they’re going through, and how cruelly the world can treat them. Ugh.

Songs About Your Kid/s: You Were Meant for Me – Jewel.  Both because yeah, she was meant for me, and because she LOVED this song as a toddler, and would sing it to us all the time.

Favorite Classical Song: Mozart Clarinet Concerto.  Also, his Bassoon Concerto. Love them.

Favorite Jazz Song: Anything off of the Scott Hamilton Quintet’s album, The Second Set.  Really good stuff.

Favorite Christmas Song:
Oh Come All Ye Faithful.

Favorite Gospel/Praise Song: Amazing Grace. And yeah, I want to see the movie.

Favorite Ringtone on Cellphone: Whatever. I’m not into ringtones.

I’m not into ring tones either, so my phone has as close to a normal ring as possible. And, I also loved The The 🙂

I bet Maya is excited that her birthday is tomorrow!

    Great meme!

Nice meme. I could get into ring tones but I’m too lazy to track one down I might like.:) Maya is going to turn 11 tomorrow? How exciting!

Good list! I bet there are some people who would disagree with you that the English Beat was a “rock n roll” group, though! (not me, I like it too!)

  • Black Belt Mama

My favorite break-up song is Angry Johnny by Poe. Ever heard it? It’s fabulous. That, and that song “Hate everything you”-can’t remember who sings it though.

    Cool meme.

Mmm – not sure about ring tones either. Other people’s really annoy me.

    I’d add one song though:

Favourite song for when you’re feeling whimsical/thoughtful ‘Old Man’ by Neil Young
