Thirteen Thoughts

My brain is scattered today, like the birds screaming outside of my window…a big raucous mess that occasionally gels and quiets down, and then start screeching again. Not sure what’s up with them, or with me, but this is the best I can do today.

Thirteen Random Thoughts:

1. I’ve decided to try life without Diet Coke (not all at once…no need to evacuate the region). I know, I already cut back on the wine consumption (not giving it up, just cutting back). I think I was out of whack with how much I was consuming of both of these things anyway. BUT, don’t worry. I won’t be giving up carbs, ice cream, Cheetos, fruits and veggies, or any of the other little pleasures of life anytime soon. K?

2. Looking at the headlines is becoming more and more disturbing. North Korea, Iran, Iraq (aka, Axis of Evil). I don’t think that the people in charge of these countries are normal or sane. I wish the people in charge of OUR country were normal and sane. I’d feel better.

3. Seeing the crash of Cory Lidle’s airplane yesterday was an eerie reminder of times past. My heart goes out to the families of those who died. Also the families of all of the other people who died yesterday, including the 5 people killed in a train accident in France, as well as those who die every day in wars all over the world, including 2660 civilians in Iraq in the month of September alone. Which brings me back to thought number 2, about the news being disturbing.

4. I’m tired of being asked for money all of the time. Tired of the fundraising that occurs to raise money for so many causes. I want a cure for breast cancer. I don’t want to buy a pink pashmina to get it. I don’t want to buy stationary to feed starving children or promote literacy. I would rather just write a check, and have 100% of the money go to the people who need it. Don’t worry, I get plenty of those types of solicitations, too. Oh, UNICEF? Don’t send me the nickel, telling me how much it means to you. If it meant that much, you would keep it. Bad idea. (I haven’t even cut back on the diet coke yet, and I’m already mighty snarky.)

5. I’m looking forward to Halloween. It’s a fun holiday. We might go to Ted’s company Halloween party, and the next night is a birthday party with a friend of Maya’s that we’ve known since she was 2, and the parents all know each other and we drink wine and have fun. Last year they had a fortune teller, who said I’d be working home within a year…and look, here I am. He also said I’d be making more money, which hasn’t happened. Win some, lose some. πŸ˜‰ Halloween itself, not sure about yet. Sometimes we go trick or treating with another of Maya’s friend, who lives across the street from C-Lo, but not sure if that’s going on this year or not.

6. One thing I’m liking about the blogging is getting a little glimpse into the lives of Beenzzz and ML. They’re family of the In Law kind, and I’ve only met them a few times, so it’s great to get to know them a little better this way.

7. Ted bought Maya some new jeans last week, and she looked so cute in them that I wanted to eat her. Is that wrong of me?

8. I’m glad Lost is back on TV. I missed it while it was gone. I’m not thrilled with the idea of there being a big spot in the middle of the season with no new episodes, though. But the way they handled it last year really blew, so maybe this will be better. Oooh…anyone else listen to “To the Best of Our Knowledge”? I heard a theory there about Lost…that the characters are trapped in a video game of sorts, and are being played by some sicko. Hmmm.

9. Anybody else remember Koogle? Gosh, I loved that stuff. The chocolate was the best. Like a Recees sandwich.

10. What about Walaby Squash…anyone remember that? Kind of like a cross between Squirt and Mountain Dew.

11. I’m already tired of the new Robin Williams movie, Man of the Year. Looks REALLY dumb. Then again, RV wasn’t as dumb as I expected it to be, so who knows. Maybe because we were a captive audience (on the train) and my expectations were so low to begin with.

12. Ted bought me a groovy new mousepad yesterday with a gel filled wrist pad. Looks like this, only black. It feels great, but boy, it STINKS. I’m keeping the window WIDE open. Thanks, Py! My wrist thanks you, too!

13. David Bowie on Spongebob? I’m all over that like a cheap suit. (He WAS my first husband, after all.) Gotta get TiVo by then. πŸ˜‰

So, that’s my scattered Thursday 13. Some a downer, some lighthearted. Hey, tomorrow’s Friday, right! YAY!

Oh, thank goodness you’re not giving up Cheetos! Now that would be a crime! I’m considering giving up coffee…again, but only considering at the moment. Is having one cup a day bad?
Yes, the world is a scary place. Our government is scary! Ditto on the all the charities asking for money. I get sick of the people on the roadside begging for money so they can get in their BMW and drive off to their mansion.
Ditto on getting to know you better too!! πŸ˜‰ I find it a lot of fun to see people’s personalities coming out in their writing and thoughts. It’s great catching up with Laluna and Py as well.
CUTE jeans for your adorable pickney! And it’s not wrong for a Mom to want to eat her sweet child up πŸ™‚

I wrote a post about buying pink M&M’s for breast cancer research.

Figured it was as easy to eat pink M&M’s as the multi-colored variety.

I hate the junk mail solicitations though and the telemarketers.

  • Dot

I love the feeling of loving my kid so much I want to smother her in catsup and eat her. πŸ™‚ When is David Bowie gonna be on Spongebob??? That ROCKS!

  • celfyddydau

Great list. Totally know where you are going with numbers 2 and 4. I get all – don’t send me a pen to write a cheque with, I have my own and it makes me think that if you can afford to send me pens then you don’t need my money.

Good luck with gving up the diet coke.

  • Maya's Granny

J, you could try switching to caffiene free diet coke. You could even do the slow switch of blending regular with caffeine free a little more each week until it is all caffeine free. I’ve known people to do that with coffee and milk.

  • J

Mom, they’re not sure if it’s the caffeine or something else in the cola, so caffeine free would help me transition, but not solve the problem really. I’m going to slowly wean myself from Coke to Calistoga water. No fake stuff to be bad for me, and still bubbles. πŸ™‚ That’s the plan, anyway.

Dot, I think Bowie is going to be on Spongebob next year. SO cool.

Ann, I don’t mind buying pink m&ms if I’m going to buy m&ms anyway…I just don’t want to feel guilty for not wanting m&ms. I know you don’t mean that someone should…I just mean, I think some companies want you to. And, what if, instead of this cute marketing ploy, M&M just gave a percentage of ALL of their profits to research? To me, that would show a LOT more support than making you look for a particular color during a particular time of year.

That Movie RV I had to turn off after about 45 minutes. I was hoping this new one would be good. I like Robin Williams. It is too bad about the plane the flew into the building in New York. I am sorry the two people who died and several others on the ground were injuried It is also a relief that it wasn’t a terriorist attack.
    Happy Thursday to you.

I am glad that Lost is back on, but last night’s episode left me wanting.

And maybe if we can get a Dem majority, we can get some impeachment action or something.

A girl can hope, can’t she?

  • Nancy

Boy, was I confused when I saw “J” and then a different URL than I’m used to with you — I wondered if I had a new “J” until I came over!

Did you just hear about the study that soda consumption may increase bone loss in women? That’s enough to make me think about giving up Diet Coke as well. (Well, I say that, but yesterday about 2 hours after vowing to give it up I forgot and let my coworker buy me a diet soda…) πŸ˜‰

  • wordgirl

I’ve got to be the only person left in the “lower 48” (I can’t vouch for Hawaii or Alaska) who hasn’t seen even a single episode of “Lost”. I’ll probably need to catch up later by watching the old seasons.

  • Beenzzz

I’m new to the blogging world, but having a blast with it so far! I love getting to know you, Py, and laluna as well. I haven’t seen any of you in such a long time that it’s so nice to stay in touch! πŸ™‚
