The Name Game

Julie Julie bo bulie, banana fanna fo foolie, me my mo moolie, Julie! (The picture is of the newest American Girl doll, Julie!)

I’m totally grabbing this one from Susan in Italy, she to whom I am forever indebted, because I found out from her that Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me is available via podcast. But I digress. Here’s a fun little meme, in which the goal is “to choose a fact, word or tidbit that’s somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your name.”

Since Susan’s blog, Porcini Chronicles, is a food blog, she chose a different food for each letter of her name, and she did a fabulous job of it. But my blog doesn’t really HAVE a theme like that…I write about books, recipes, restaurants, music, crap that bugs me, my family, etc. In other words, whatever I’m Thinking About… at that moment. So, I’m going to take the meme and shape it, so each letter will be for one of these things, and see what I come up with. Here goes:

JJulia (click to listen!). One of my very most favorite Beatles songs, partially I’m sure because it has my name, but also because it’s just a beautiful, beautiful song. I mean, there are other songs that SUCK with the name Julie. I ignore them as much as possible.

UThe Unbearable Lightness of Being. One of my favorite, favorite books of all time. I first saw the movie, which I kind of hated, in very large part because I had an eye infection at the time and my contacts were bugging the crap out of me and it’s hard to follow a longish film under those conditions. But then I read the book, and I was just blown away. I remember several years ago, I bought a copy for Cherry’s birthday gift, and I was actually jealous that she got to read it, and I wasn’t reading it. Then I realized how stupid that was, and I reread it. 😉 I’ve since seen the movie several times, and I think they did a damn fine job with it.

L – Linguine. I love pasta in all of its many forms, but linguine is one of the best. I have two linguine recipes that I particularly LOVE…Linguine with Lamb Sauce (that’s two Ls for the price of one!) Sooooo yummy. Truly. Oh, the other recipe is Linguine and Clams. I know there are more authentic recipes out there, and I’ve had some mighty yummy linguine and clams in my sordid past (that’s just for street cred…my past is pretty tame, actually) with whole fresh clams, and white wine sauce that ROCKED. But this linguine and clams recipe is my nostalgic favorite, as well as being less expensive, since the clams are from a can.

I It’s a Wonderful Life.  (click to see the story reinacted by bunnies) One of my all time favorite movies.  Also, the first movie Ted and I ever saw together, 20 years ago this coming December, all kissy face on the sofa in my San Francisco flat.  20 years…amazing.  It is indeed a wonderful life, to be able to be with someone as wonderful as Ted for 20 years now…AND, it’s a great movie, and I have to watch it at least once every holiday season ever since.  Love it.

ECafe Esin. My favorite restaurant that starts with an ‘E’.  It represents the best of Friday Night Dining.  What, you may ask, is Friday Night Dining?  It’s a dinner that makes you say, TGIF!  That used to mean pizza, red wine, and the X-Files, but these days, it usually means a nice dinner out somewhere, a lovely start to the weekend.  We like to go somewhere with good service, yummy food, and a nice atmosphere.  We’ve been here a few times, and we really enjoy it every time.  Assuming we are able to sell our house, the new place is pretty close to Cafe Esin, so I’m guessing we’ll be going there more often. Yum!

That was fun, even though I didn’t have a place to put ‘things that bug the crap out of me’, or any family stuff.  This is a fun meme.  Give it a try, and tell me in comments if you’re going to play…I’ll come check it out. 🙂

I like the song Julia! It’s a Wonderful Life is a MUST watch during the holiday season as well as A Christmas Story.

Great meme. I may have to do this one.

I saw this meme too and thought it was cool! I remember watching “It’s a Wonderful Life,” when I was a growing up. It is the quintessential Christmas movie. That and like ML mentioned, “A Christmas Story.

It’s a good thing we’re married because I love all those things as well! 🙂

Your American Girl doll looks like she ought to be in the movie “Logan’s Run.”

I love pasta with clam sauce, the best tasting recipe I think is the Spaghetti Factory one. It is not fishy tasting and really creamy.
I want to play to, but do you use the blog name or the birth name????

Ohh, I LOVED Unbearable Likeness of Being! I haven’t seen the movie though. I’ve actually been thinking it’s time for a reread, and I never reread! THANK YOU!

And um… PASTA! During the wedding prep I didn’t allow myself to have pasta. Eric kept going on about no carb diets being stupid, and I kept having to remind him that I’m not on a no carb diet, I’m just tying to stay away from thing that I DO NOT moderate. Especially when the only sauces I ADORE are creamy, cheesy or buttery. I totally had pasta twice this week though, and none of that healthy kind. Full on Butter and Cream sauces! Mmmm

LaLuna, I used my birth name, but I don’t see any reason you couldn’t use your blog name if you prefer. 🙂

I’m glad to see there are so many of you out there with good taste, so that you love “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” and “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
