Political blurb…

Just finished watching Clinton give her speech. She rocked.

We were watching on MSNBC, and when she finished, they started saying what a great job she did, and how she hit it out of the park, and how supportive of the Democratic cause she was. How she slammed McCain and supported Obama.

Then we switched it over to Fox News, and they couldn’t shut up about how she never got around to saying that Obama would be a great president, how she didn’t put herself 100% behind him. How she didn’t really slam McCain, and you’d think to listen to her that we had been living in Belarus rather than America.

Whatever. Idiots. What I love about politics is the starry eyed hope of the convention. What I hate about politics is these idiots trying to sound like they have a brain between them. Grrr.

Ted is blogging about the convention over on Popdose, if you’re so inclined.  I think he may be in love with Michelle.  Sigh.

Hillary was awesome. I hope her supporters will now all unite behind Obama. Consider this, for example. In 2005, Hillary Clinton sponsored an amendment to a women’s health care bill that would “allocate $100 million for the prevention of unintended pregnancies.” The bill would have helped to fund family planning and educational programs to prevent unwanted pregnancies. John McCain voted against the bill. I fail to see the logic of those who oppose abortion, but at the same time oppose programs that would prevent unwanted pregnancies and reduce the number of abortions. I fail to see the logic of those who oppose abortion, but at the same time oppose providing access to safe and effective contraception. John McCain doesn’t even want to acknowledge that condoms can prevent the spread of AIDS.

I really like how fired up she got toward the end of the speech. Tomorrow at Popdose we’ll be snarking quite a bit about her speech (and how Mark Warner looks like a Vulcan), but I loved what she said and her energy. I feel sorry for Biden ’cause he has to follow her tomorrow night, and if he doesn’t hit it out of the ballpark, it’s going to be trouble.

Rob – Any logic regarding reproductive rights went out the window when the religious conservatives got their hooks into the Republican Party. Oh yeah, they were always there in the background, but Reagan opened the door and gave them way more influence than their numbers deserve. We now have the mess you see today. A country that on paper looks like a progressive and free nation, but in reality is moving backwards as fast as it can.

The angry Hillary supporters need to bury the hatchet. They keep up their divisive ways and another Republican in the White House is a done deal. This where taking a page from the Republican playbook might be in order. The Republicans know how to unite themselves.

It’s worse than ever: the Superstars of Television news parading around Denver as if they were the Court at Versailles. Next week they will be in Minneapolis / St Paul, saturated with their own importance…and trying to make some profound observation that hasn’t already been uttered a hundred thousand times since the January 2nd Iowa caucuses.
