Ode to Wednesday

One of the things I like about Maya’s middle school is Wednesday mornings.  In her elementary school, she used to get out of school at 1:00 on Wednesday afternoons, which was nice, but now instead of getting out early, they start late.  So, one day a week, we get to have a slower start to her day.  Maya sleeps in (and sometimes, like today, I do too).  Often we have time to sit down and eat breakfast together, as opposed to her eating eggo waffles while we walk to school (don’t worry, no messy syrup).  The morning just doesn’t have that same rushed feeling as the rest of the week day mornings.

I like it a lot.  I like that it’s in the middle of the week, giving folks a chance to slow down and breathe.  And especially with the physical changes going on inside of a pre-teen, a little extra sleep and a late start is a very good thing.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

~If you’re wondering, Mom’s doing OK, but I’m not getting very thorough information from the nurses, which is one frustrating part of not being up there myself.  I’m going to try calling her doctor today.

I would love a slow start to the morning. Well I had one, then I was late picking Autumn which almost made her late for school. We made it with one minute to spare and I was 21 minutes late to work 🙁

I’m lucky to work from home, but what do working parents do? My friends who work office or own businesses are always running around like chickens without heads to prepare for the “teacher institute” days and the random holidays.

I hope you can get some straight answers soon! Good LORD! I agree with you on the growing tween and sleep thing. I swear that Zoey can sleep for 12-13 hours and still wake up just as groggy as if she’d slept 8-10!

Aw, I love Wednesday. The girl and the day. I’m glad to hear your mom’s doing better. Let me know if there’s anything I can do from up here in Fairbanks. Maybe go look those nurses right in the eye? It’s tough to care for a loved one from afar. You’re in my thoughts.

My son has “delayed start” on Thursday however due to weight training for football players in the off season he has to go in at the regular time. Since I have a flexible schedule, I try to do a “delayed start” once a week. It’s nice to have a morning when I can go a little slower.

I think late start is in order for middle and high school kids. They tend to stay up late because something wacky with their body clock happens, so I think the schools should adjust to it. 🙂

I love this idea about starting late. Some of our best times together are in the mornings over leisurely breakfasts. One advantage of having mine at home – no real schedule……of course, this can also be a disadvantage!

Glad you had some time together.

That is a wonderful thing. I know I just love it when the weekend rolls around because we can do whatever we want. There’s nothing like that around here.

It must be difficult not being there. You can still be your mom’s advocate from where you are.
