Mulder’s Birthday

Today should have been Mulder’s 9th birthday. He would have perhaps been starting to slow down a bit more, but would still be enjoying long walks on my Fabulous Fridays. He’d still be begging for carrots and cucumbers and bread. In his honor, I thought I would share this video from his 6th birthday, his ‘Golden Birthday’, which we celebrated by making him his own hamburger. He was so much fun!

Oh Julie, I know. Stepdog would have been 12 on Easter. Yes she was slowing down but she loved life and was such a joy. And yes we have the puppy, but she is her own being and doesn’t replace Steppie.

I would not have predicted that the meat would have been last choice in the burger! I think Stepdog would have inhaled the burger and the cheese as one unit, and done it so fast that she wouldn’t have taken it off the plate. She would have ignored the carrots and I’m not sure what she would have done with the bun since we never gave her bread (due to a touchy belly). Doggo eats carrots, but she likes to play with them first. We haven’t given her a hamburger yet, but my prediction is that she’d make short work of it.

I don’t think the meat was his last choice so much as he just took things as they came…but who knows. He sure did love bread and carrots!

Happy Birthday to Mulder who had 9 happy years in a loving family. What a fun birthday this 6th one was. I’m not sure what my Fred would have done with a whole burger. He prefered his food cut up for him.

Hugs to you. Remember the happiness.

Your dog wants his food cut up? That’s hilarious to me. I wonder if Mulder would have preferred that? For his last birthday, when he turned 8, we gave him steak, and we did cut that up.

Sending hugs. Mulder brought so much life and love into your family and he was absolutely gorgeous.
Thinking of you today. I wish I could do something to ease the pain, but thank you for sharing these glimpses of Mulder with us.

What a sweet, dear boy Mulder was. I love how he was so dainty with his birthday treats, carrying each bit to his bed and neatly eating each part. He was so happy and well-mannered!

I know you miss him so much and understandably so. He had a wonderful life, full of love both given and shared. XO

Hugs to you, my friend. The beauty of our pets is unconditional love, fun, and companionship. The sadness is that their lives are far too short.

That’s exactly it, isn’t it? Not cool. We watched the Oscars this year, and one of the winners said something about his old dog and how he wanted someone to please invent something to extend their lives. Sigh. Poor Mulder barely hit middle age. Not fair.

I’ll confess to always being a touch annoyed when Ted pulls out his phone and starts taking video, but I’m always glad later that he did. I’m starting to learn and not be annoyed, so I guess I’m growing.

Oh, Mulder… I can just feel how much you miss him! I love this video so much- what a happy life he had with his cheeseburger and carrots birthday treat! So sweet.

Thanks Jenny, he had a good life, and this was a good day! The bad parts of his life would be getting lymphoma of course, and also when he was sold in a parking lot (how we ended up getting him).

Oh this is such a cute video. Mulder sounds like such a wonderful pet, and so fluffy. So sorry he was not with you as long as you would’ve liked. Thinking of you.

Oh, Julie, I’m so sorry, still, about Mulder. He was so well-loved, and loving. I miss my Simon still and it’s been almost 5 years. <3

Thanks Anne. He was so much fun. Sigh. I’m sorry about your Simon. Time makes it easier, but it’s never easy.
