Morning Walk

Just a quick post tonight, Ted is making dinner (Dungeness crab, caught by a friend’s fisherman son yesterday, fresh fresh fresh) and then we will be watching Maya’s new zombie show, The Last of Us. Here are some photos from an early morning walk Mulder and I took recently. Actually, looking at the photos, I can see that I cheated, these are not all from the same walk. Pretend you don’t notice that the leash in the last photo is different than the leash in the first photo. The picture above is the sun coming up behind Mt. Diablo, and Mulder looking handsome near the little lake in our nearby park.

This is the rose garden in the same park, covered in frost. The statue of the dancing girl in the back of the garden does not seem to mind the chilly temps.

Looking the other way from the rose garden, there is an area of daffodils or maybe paper whites, I don’t know.

Last pic (crap, I can smell the crab and the garlic bread, and it’s making me very hungry), this is the fancy leash I bought for Mulder for our early morning walks, if we happen to be out before the sun. Does it stop people from almost hitting us because they are looking left while turning right at a red light, even though we have the walk sign? Apparently not. Still, we are more visible than we were.

oh, Mulder! What a cutie. I love the picture in the last post of him in his tie. These are nice photos- you guys get out EARLY, and it looks so cold! Luckily Mulder has a nice fur coat.

Thanks Jenny, yes, Mulder is a cutie! We usually leave for our walk at about 7. I don’t remember why we went before the sun came up in the last picture, perhaps I had an early meeting for work…I work from home, which gives me a lot of freedom, but I do try to be there by 8am. That wasn’t the same day as the other pictures, which I could tell because it’s a different leash.

Melissa, on the rare day that Mulder doesn’t get a walk, the timer in his head makes him all goofy and I feel so badly about denying him. Usually the only time that happens is if it is raining, and he really HATES going out in the rain, so he doesn’t want to go once I open the door and show him, but he REALLY wants to go when I close the door again.

Mulder appreciates your dedication to him and his walks, I’m sure. Especially since you risk your life!

Your dinner sounds wonderful. I do love crab, but I hate how worky it is. And I’ve made garlic bread into a meal all by itself.

Nance, you’ve told me of your MD friend and your crab cakes there. Crab cakes or a crab salad of some kind are perfect solution to how worky it is. Around here, we don’t mind how worky it is. We dive in like animals, cracking it with our teeth. It’s not pretty.

The dedication to Mulder’s walks, I know he appreciates. Little does he know that that is one of the main reasons that I wanted a dog. If I didn’t have him, I know I wouldn’t go out EVERY (non raining) DAY. I know because we were sans dog for 3 1/2 years, and I didn’t do it. I went sometimes, I got into other kinds of exercise, but the walk is the thing I am best at being consistent with, so a dog is a big help.

Wow! Dinner at your place sounds a lot more exciting than dinner at our place!

Isn’t having a dog the best for getting out and walking and enjoying the beauty of where you live? I used to go for walks pre-dog, but there’s something about being able to say to another living creature, “hey, look at that beautiful sunrise!” that makes it a thousand times better.

NGS, this WAS an exciting dinner. Nice to have some of those!

I just read your post about your poor dog and the snow. Sigh. And yeah, having Mulder as a walking buddy is a true gift.

Thanks Ally! I had to order it online. I went to three pet stores in search of something similar, but couldn’t find anything. They had lighted collars, but he is so furry around the neck, I doubt anyone would notice.

The crab was indeed delicious! Yum.

Looks chilly! Love seeing those shoots bursting out of the ground as a sign of Spring! It’s -1 with the sun here today. Argh. Love your pup. What a cutie.

Margaret, BRRR! It was 33 when we went out this morning, and I think we may hit high 20s soon. My gas/electric bill is NOT happy. Well, probably it is, but I am not happy about it.

    Yum. That meal sounds delish.

And what a great leash. I don’t own a dog, but it had never once crossed my mind that leashes might come with lighting capabilities. Brilliant!

I love Mulder’s leash! I often see a dog and his owner on runs whose collar glows, but not the leash. If his/her leash lit up that would be extra easy to spot. I am glad I don’t encounter much traffic on my walks. I do wear a head lamp if it’s not bright out, though, but mostly so other people on the running path see me.

Thanks Lisa! Mulder is so furry, we worried that no one would see a light up collar. I love the head lamp hats, I bought one for my husband for his runs, and have ended up using it for my walks. 🙂
