Meme Monday – Happy Birthday Edition!
Today is my daughter Maya’s 25th birthday! That is somewhat shocking to me, I remember 25 very well. Actually, 25 is when my biological clock started ticking, and I started really wanting a baby. Before that, I was more hypothetical about it. But Ted and I were dating still, had just recently gotten engaged, and I was just graduating from college, into a recession. So it was 5 more years before we had Maya.
Anyway, this is her 2nd COVID birthday. She went out yesterday with some friends, and sat in the park and had a lovely time while socially distant. It was almost 80 degrees, so pretty perfect weather for it. Today we will be sticking pretty close to home. She hasn’t decided what she would like for a birthday dinner yet, be it take out or something homemade.
This is the cake we ordered for her. It’s from a bakery in Los Angeles and New York, Milk Bar, and is supposedly the best cake EVER. She really wanted to give it a try. Generally I think I would say no, especially since we will not be having a party and it will be just us, but hell, 2 COVID birthdays? Last year I gave her IOUs for a massage and a pedicure, and she has not been able to collect on either yet. Ridiculous. So if she wants a fancy cake shipped to us, a fancy cake shipped to us is what she will have. We’ll be sitting around watching Twilight movies, I think. Sigh.
Poor Ted somehow injured his Achilles’ tendon, and woke up Saturday morning in a LOT of pain. Went to Urgent Care on Sunday and they looked at it and said it is a sprain or something. No surgery or treatment needed, but very painful and a slow recovery, so it’s probably a good thing Maya doesn’t want to go anywhere. It’s extremely painful to walk on, so he is using crutches, which he says help tremendously.
What other news…well, the little grocery store roses I posted a picture of the other day are not doing well. I have a brown thumb when it comes to roses. The leaves are turning yellow. I have a cousin who is a Master Gardner, and I send her pictures and questions when they come up. She said that since the soil was dry, it is mostly likely in shock, and that is not uncommon with mini roses from grocery stores. So she said to give them a good soak of water, but be sure not to over water them. That likely they will lose all or most of their leaves, but they will come back, I just have to be patient. Sad, huh? Poor things.
We’ve been watching movies lately, as Ted is a member of SAG/Aftra and gets screeners. I’ll post about some of them in a few days.
Happy Maya’s Birthday, everyone!

Two pandemic birthdays is crappy. She definitely deserves a famous Milk Bar cake. So does Ted, really.
Jared, my eldest, had his 36th birthday yesterday. It seems impossible. We are both not old enough to have children this old.
(Love that meme at the top of this post. That’s about enough math for me any day.)

Sorry Jared had two pandemic birthdays as well. Hopefully by the time your birthday rolls around, it will be better. Our County is hoping to open up vaccinations to those 16 and older this week, so maybe Maya will be fully vaccinated by Ted’s birthday? Time will tell.

Happy birthday to Maya! I think that gorgeous cake is perfect considering the circumstances. Two Covid birthdays really stinks, especially at that age. I hope Ted is feeling better soon and good luck with the roses. Have a great week!

Thanks Martha! Ted is improving a bit every day, so we are hopeful. He’s definitely taking it easy, and I wish we didn’t have stairs, but he’s managing that too.

Happy Birthday to Maya. How could she be 25 years old? The cake is lovely. What did she choose for her birthday dinner?

Ally, the cake was delicious! It tasted like a gourmet ho-ho. All of the yummy flavor, none of the chemical processed food taste.
She chose sushi for her birthday dinner, which was fabulous since that meant I didn’t have to cook. And Ted went with me to pick it up, since he has been housebound.
We only had time for 2 Twilight movies, which was fine, because it would have been a bit much if we had gone for all 5!
