Meme Monday – Hair Edition
I GOT MY HAIR DONE!!!!
My hair is somewhat high maintenance…color, highlights, trim. Also, somewhat low maintenance, because it is long and I don’t have bangs, so I don’t have to worry about the shape as much as if it were shorter.
I last had my hair done professionally in mid-March, right before California went on lockdown. I’ve done a couple of Clairol ‘Root Touch Ups’ since then, which make me feel a LOT better, but still don’t look great. Our salons opened for a few weeks in July and then closed again. I was not sure I wanted to be on the front line of that experiment, thought I would wait and see how things went before getting my hair done, so I waited…and they closed again. Sigh.
So when our Governor changed the rules on quarantine, (god knows how or what it means, I didn’t understand it or how we, in a high risk county, could open hair salons) I jumped on it. I was buoyed by the story I saw a couple of months ago about a couple of hair dressers in Missouri back in March. They tested positive, and cut hair for maybe 100 clients before their test came in. They wore masks. Not one client got sick. Because of having client information, contact tracing was easy, and they followed them closely. NOT ONE CLIENT GOT SICK.
Based on that, I leaped at that chance to get my color and cut, and OMG, I feel human again! Usually, when I get my hair done, I like to go out to dinner or something, since I figure I’m not going to look any better than that. This year, with COVID, there was no going out to dinner (we have outdoor dining here, and maybe it’s OK, but I’m not comfortable with that yet, with all of those people talking and laughing and coughing without masks….). So Ted and I decided to live it up. We couldn’t go out to dinner, so we took a drive in one of the cars. The car that we had to jump because I had left the lights on overnight and the battery was dead. So we jumped it and drove it around awhile in the crappy smoky air, until it was charged a bit.
Seriously, we’re considering moving out of California. This fire season is starting to really blow.

I haven’t gotten a haircut since probably February? January? My hair is incredibly long and all the layering has grown out. I periodically chop at my bangs here and there, after a disastrous attempt to grow them out bested my Patience.
In Ohio–state motto “What Coronavirus? We do what downstate republicans want.”–salons have been open for months and months. My concerns are outweighed by my laziness, really. If I look remotely decent, I just keep on procrastinating. But I’m reaching my limit.

Nance, I was joking with my hairdresser that quarantine came at a perfect time, because I was done with my layers and wanted to grow them out. HA!
Ted has an alter ego named Eduardo, who knows how to cut bangs. He went to the University of YouTube, and they come out really well. I don’t have bangs, but Maya does, and Eduardo saves the day when she can’t get to the salon.

Roberta and I talked about sitting outside when the restaurants opened for outdoor seating, but ultimately she wasn’t comfortable with it. We get take out from our favorite places, just to support them.
I’m totally with you about the fire season crap, too. What’s scariest is that climate change/global warming is just going to continue. California and Australia can just hire full-time firefighters and arrange for them to spend half the year in each hemisphere, because I think this is going to get worse. I just can’t talk her into living any place that has winter …
sorry to be so glum.

Right there with you Ben. We’ve been discussing where else we could maybe live. I thought maybe Portland since I have a lot of family there, but they are encased in smoke right now too, and gosh, it’s SO WHITE there, not sure we’re up for that either. Where to go? What to do? Frustrating.
