Meme Monday

My A-Z theme is over, and we still have a couple of days left of NaBloPoMo. What to do? Well, Elisabeth asked a bunch of questions on her Blog a couple of weeks ago, and I saved them for just such a situation. I remember when ‘meme’ meant all of these questions, back in the old days of blogging. So here we go. The meme above is a repeat, and is just to make you laugh.

  • Favorite hot beverage? Tetley black tea with a bit of milk and 1 packet of Splenda.
  • Would you rather be rich or famous? Rich, I have zero interest in being famous. Can you imagine? (Shudder!)
  • Do you have a nickname? Some people call me Jules.
  • Do you “name” your vehicles? Yes, our cars have names. My mom used to name hers using alliteration, based on the type of car. So we had Victor the Volvo, Serena the Sunbird, that kind of thing. We don’t follow any convention, and have had cars named ‘Are car’ (Maya very young pronouncing ‘our’ as ‘are’) and Achebe.
  • What is your most-used emoji? Probably hearts of various kinds. Pink sometimes, orange sometimes, etc.
  • What celebrity/public figure do people say you most look like? OR Which actor/actress would you choose to play you in a movie about your life? I sometimes get Laura Dern, though she is quite a bit taller and thinner than me. I would totally want her to play me in a movie, she’s fabulous.
  • What movie/book do you wish you could watch/read again for the FIRST time? Hmmm. I remember giving The Unbearable Lightness of Being as a gift once, and being envious that my friend was going to read it for the first time. I’m less enthusiastic about Milan Kundera now, since he signed that stupid letter defending Roman Polanski.
  • What superpower would you choose for yourself? The ability to heal. To heal myself, to heal others. Physically, mentally, whatever is needed.
  • What outfit are you wearing right now? Why did you choose it today? Well, as I’m writing this it is Saturday early afternoon. We just got home from a family walk, so I’m wearing my walking clothes (yoga pants and a Fairbanks, Alaska t-shirt). After my shower I will be wearing jeans and a sweater. We’re going to go downtown and do a little shopping, my foundation is on sale. Yay!
  • Worst haircut? My mom used to cut my hair, and I would never sit still, so it was pretty bad. If you’re (un)lucky, perhaps I’ll give you a Wordless Wednesday glimpse sometime.
  • Favorite Home Alone trap? No opinion, I haven’t seen those movies in so long. I think I only saw the first one when it came out, haven’t seen the others. Did he make them fall down the stairs at one point?
  • Favorite knock-knock joke? I’m not a big fan of the oeuvre (genre is more accurate, but oeuvre is funnier), so I had to look some up. I like this one:
    Knock, knock.
    Who’s there?
    To.
    To who?
    To whom.
  • Favorite class in school? Least favorite? Favorite – World History / Least Favorite – Gym. I also liked Literature classes a lot, and until high school, I loved math.
  • Summer or winter? Winter, but I live in California where winter is pretty mild. Really what I like is late winter/early spring, when everything is green.
  • Mushrooms – yes or no? Definitely yes.
  • Best teacher from grade school; name and why? I don’t really remember most of my grade school teachers, for better or for worse, but I will say Mrs. Mata, because she was the first Filipino American teacher in California. I had her for 3rd grade, near the end of her teaching career. There is now an elementary school named for her in my hometown.

It is alwys fun to read through those questions. Every time a new glimpse and a new thing to learn.
And I had no idea about this Milan Kundera things. I remember I read the booked liked it but wasn’t sure what it was really about. Always wondered if I should pick it up again.

I love posts like this. I definitely think you look like Laura Dern, but also A LOT like J.K. Rowling. I think that every single time I see a picture of you (you’re gorgeous, by the way!).

    Fun post <3

That meme makes me literally laugh out loud.

I’m still trying to figure out gym classes. I mean, I get it, I guess, but what a dumb thing to have in the middle of the jr. high and high school day. I detested it.

Love that joke; I’d never heard it! I’m going to tell it to everyone.

I know, that meme is hilarious, as is the knock knock joke.

Back when I was in HS, you could get out of gym class by doing extracurricular sports for 2 hours a week. I found that out in the middle of my Freshman year because my BFF was a dancer. So I took ballet and jazz and got out of PE for the rest of HS. What a relief!

Interesting! I wish I liked tea because it seems way healthier. Instead I’m a mocha/latte person. I used to get Cindy Williams from Laverne and Shirley. When people see photos of me in high school, they invariably say Emma Watson or Hermione! My younger daughter, who resembles me closely, was told that constantly. If she only had a dollar for each time, she’d be rich! I would rather be rich too, by the way. My least favorite classes were art and gym. (no good at either) My favorites were languages and science. I wasn’t great at history although I did find it fascinating.

I think green tea is pretty healthy, I’m not sure about black tea, especially the way I drink it, with milk and Splenda. Probably not healthy.

I’m still waiting with baited breath to see what Nov 28-30’s themes will be now that we’re “off alphabet”. You seriously had the most genious executition of NaBloPo this year.

Elisabeth is a genious with the questions!

    • J

Using the alphabet as a prompt makes coming up with post ideas so much easier. I think the first time I did it was back when NaBloPoMo was on the BlogHer website, and they had prompts every month. So it wasn’t even November.

In college, multiple people told me I looked like Tori Spelling. I don’t think that is a compliment… I can see the Laura Dern similarities!! She’s a delight!

We are in the knock knock joke stage of parenting. This is the boys’ favorite (which of course features potty humor).

    Knock Knock?
    Who’s there?
    Smell pop.
    Smell pop who?
    Ew, you’re stinky.

    That meme is very funny.

I’m stealing these questions. They’re so good and give such a fun peak into a person. I love your answers! Even if it reminds me of my own HORRIBLE haircuts thanks to my Mom. She didn’t cut my hair but always believed in “getting her money’s worth” from haircuts which directly translated into amount cut off. I cried after almost every haircut. I sort of wonder now if it hurt the hair stylist’s feelings.

    • J

Excellent! Always fun to have blog fodder. Regarding your hair, that’s just depressing. You poor thing. Your hairdresser probably hated to see your name in the appointments, knowing how it was going to turn out. I’m sure she did her best to make it cute, and then the tears. Sigh.

Ah, so you didn’t switch to Greek letters! (Isn’t that what they do for hurricanes if we get to the end of the alphabet?) I always love question posts like this- and I love the meme.

    • J

I considered the Greek letters after you commmented that one day, but couldn’t figure out how to make it work! Leave it to a Floridian to think of hurricane naming conventions, right?

  • Stephany

I am STEALING that knock-knock joke. It’s going to make my family so annoyed at me and I CAN’T WAIT! Muahaha.

The image at the top of this post made me laugh!
