Meme Monday – Movie Edition

I grabbed this one from A Gentleman’s Domain last week. It reminds me of a similar meme regarding books that I did awhile ago. The idea is to bold the movies I have seen. I’ll take it one better, and italicize the films I have not yet seen, but would like to.

Ooh I love movies..I might do this meme. We saw no country for old men this weekend. Not sure why it won the oscar. Javier Bardem was pretty good but the movie itself…eh.

I did that one a year or so ago, I think. There’s a similar one with a list of books that I definitely did so now I’m not entirely sure (grin). I came across a fun one a couple weeks ago, too–to give quotes from your 10 favorite movies and have people guess the movies they came from–filling in the title and the correct-guesser as they come up. It was fun!

Just looking through your list again — OMG, you didn’t see GODFATHER II??? I can’t believe it!! And you’ve never seen The Pianist??

You don’t like “boy movies”, do you?? LOL

anyhow, Pan’s Labyrinth was wonderful. I really enjoyed it — if you’re into the little bit of fairytale vs. reality sort of thing. It’s children friendly too. It’s not a boy movie like, (ahem) The Usual Suspect and Fight Club.

I gotta agree with Starshine as well — Twelve Angry Men really left an impression on me during high school, gave me perspective of what a good screenplay can really do. Also “Life is Beautiful” is a must watch. It’s a little sad, but it’s beautiful – you have to watch it.

I’ll probably continue to be vilified by every male between the ages of 15 and 40 for this, but Fight Club has to be one of the most overrated films of the modern age.

I love Braveheart. Pretty to look at, good story (although takes tons of liberties with history), and lovely soundtrack. Long, though.

Okay, it’s official…I have too much time on my hands. I’ve seen 93 of these movies at least once.

And FWIW, I’m a middle-aged woman that loves Fight Club. But I don’t talk about it 😉

  • Susan in Italy

As a woman who loves films that give you food for thought, I’d like to give an unapologetic thumbs up for Fight Club. There’s a lot in there aside from the testosterone.

I recommend Vertigo, Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind, is a Shannon favorite, Hotel Rwanda in a tearful, feel guilty movie, I have Singing in the Rain on Video if you want to borrow it, and I think you will love Prestige, along with Rebecca. Braveheart, is on TV every once in a while. You will fall in love with Mel on that one

  • Gina

Out of the ones you haven’t seen yet, I think you would enjoy Eternal Sunshine and The Prestige the most.

I have to say though that I don’t consider Pan’s Labryinth to be child friendly at all. Way to much “real” violence for me to ever consider anything but a much older child. It was a really good movie, though.
