Meme Monday

The attempted coup last week was in no way funny. However, I am going to post a bunch of memes/cartoons that I saw online anyway. What I really want to say, however, is screw these assholes. I would add, “And the horse they rode in on” but I like horses, so I will omit that part of the phrase.

I have some Republican friends that I love and adore. Thoughtful people who know better and do condemn the President, and do not think it was an Antifa hoax. This post is not about them. I have some Republican acquaintances, people I went to school with or worked with at some point, people that I generally liked at the time but do not really know anymore, who have been posting about how the insurrectionists are Antifa and gosh, liberals are fine when BLM burn down entire cities but when it’s the right, liberals suddenly have morals. To which I say, “Which is it, stupid, Antifa or the right?” A woman I was best friends with when I was 8 or 9 posted about how it was OK when women confronted Senator Flake regarding the Cavanagh confirmation hearings, but not OK when the insurrectionists forced their way into the Capitol, trashed the place, stole items, beat and killed the police, and had to be forcibly removed. That kind of thinking makes zero sense to me and is infuriating.

On a lighter note, I never noticed before that the District of Columbia is the Capital, but the building is the Capitol. How did I never notice that before? I hope I haven’t spelled it incorrectly at some point, likely not, because how often have I ever mentioned the building before? Probably none.

Today the House of Representatives introduced one article of impeachment against Trump, accusing him of inciting the insurrection attempt last week. I wish they had added another article about his trying to overturn the election via his phone call threatening the Secretary of State of Florida the Saturday prior.

This whole thing has been shocking, to say the least, though not the least bit surprising. Shocking that they were able to get as far as they did, not surprising that they were incited or that they felt and received the privileged treatment that they did. I pray that shit stops, but have to say it would be surprising if it did. Next Wednesday and the Inauguration of President-Elect Biden cannot come fast enough for me.

Regarding the new year, and how much we have all been SICK AND TIRED of 2020, and SO READY for 2021 to get here, I know many people are saying the New Year will begin for them on Jan 20th or 21st, after the inauguration. I agree with that philosophy, but fear more violence and so am pinning my hopes on the lunar calendar, which means the new year will start February 12th. Hopefully things will have settled down a bit by then. And really, 2021 will only be a great year as compared to the shit storm of 2020. The new year will not be a light switch, but rather, a dimmer switch, with improvements coming slowly. Changes other than the new President, I mean. I cannot wait for that one. If Ted were not working late the evening of the 20th, I might break my dry January pledge and pop some bubbly.

As it is, we shall see.

Updated to add this screen shot, which I took from the Department of State website. Apparently a disgruntled employee put in an end date, but it had the internet buzzing for awhile today, and had me dreaming good dreams. 9 more days.

I saved the sparkling white terrorism meme, too. I rather liked the message of it but will suggest [politely] that the subtle humor might be lost on the ungrateful idiots who attempted the coup. Critical thinking is not their strength.

Ally, I fear also that the subtle humor may be lost on some. However, my blog is not for them, so it’s OK. It’s for people that actually DO know how to think critically. ?

I hadn’t run across any of these, so they must be from fb? In any case, they’re terrific. I love this post. The dog one had me literally laughing out loud, and the cats were highly irritated at my outburst. Our mornings are usually quiet and sedate.

Your thoughts here made me even more convinced that we should hang out together and have some conversation. Only good can come of it.

Nance, AMEN to hanging out together! Hopefully with wine and sunshine.

Remember Veronica, aka, VGrrrl from blogging? She invited me to a FB group called, “Things I learned during the pandemic” which is pretty much meme central. Always good for a laugh when you need one.

I hate to wish away days of my life because there may be few enough of them left, but I certainly am looking forward to Jan. 20th 2021’s arrival. Thanks for the laughs!

Joared, good point! It’s not like I wish the days between now and then away…more like I feel robbed and want the last 4 years back. And yes, I am very much looking forward to Trump being gone and Biden being our President.

Ugh, that’s just about right! I keep thinking he is going to set the White House on fire when he leaves, but maybe we’ll get lucky and all they’ll do is strip it of its copper wiring.

I somehow hadn’t seen any of these, so perfect. This is a fantastic post. My bubbly is in the fridge chilling already for January 20th, the day can’t come quick enough for me. Using the term dimmer switch instead of light switch was a perfect way to describe what’s to come this year.
