K is for Killing Eve

Maya got us hooked on a British spy series, Killing Eve. From Rotten Tomatoes:

Eve’s life as a spy is not adding up to what she had hoped it would be when she started. She is a bored, very smart, MI5 security officer who is very desk-bound. Villanelle is a very talented killer, mercurial in mood, who clings to the luxuries of her job. Eve and Villanelle go head to head in a fierce game of cat and mouse, each woman equally obsessed with the other as Eve is tasked with hunting down the psychopathic assassin. Sarah Barnett, BBCA president, says, “‘Killing Eve’ stands out in a sea of scripted stories as refreshingly entertaining and great fun.”

We watched all four seasons within a couple of weeks, one or sometimes two episodes a night. At first, we were really into it, and then we thought it was weird, and then we were into it again, and at the end we decided it was stupid. It’s assassin humor I guess, which means lots of people being murdered, and sometimes it’s gruesome. If you watched the series Fleabag, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, she is an executive producer on the show and wrote four episodes. Is it dark comedy? Is it drama? Is it excellent TV? Is it stupid? Is it talented actors? Yes to all of the above.

The phrase that comes to mind is “It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all”. Yes there are a ton of TV shows that start strong and just get stupid and you’re like “why did I watch this” BUT I love it when the hubs and I find a show and binge away. I mean season 4 of Stranger Things wasn’t exactly High Art but it we kept gobbling down the episodes like mad people and it was fun.

I only saw season 1 of Eve. I don’t know why I didn’t continue with it but the two lead actress were SO GOOD.

Hahaha I love your conclusions about the show. This has been one I’ve wanted to watch, and I really enjoy dark comedy. Stupid, not as much LOL.

I have never heard of this show. Interesting. Hoever I am not sure I would really enjoy it though. But we have an agreement in our house. You gotta watch the first three episodes than you can decided if to continue or not. So maybe we give it a go.

I have not heard of the show yet either but it does sound interesting. In my opinion it happens quite often that a show starts lacking in one way or another as it progresses in new seasons. Sometimes I think it would be better to end things earlier.

Haha… “we were really into it, and then we thought it was weird, and then we were into it again, and at the end we decided it was stupid.” It’s so strange when shows take such drastic turns.

Boyfriend John has recommended the series to me but I’m not sure I’d like it. I don’t like black humor much or assassinations. I’m more of a police procedural/detective series type. 🙂

I can’t remember the last time Coach and I watched a show with any regularity. We used to be into Castle. I know we’ve watched things since then, but I can’t think of anything specific. I’m not sure we would like this. I like a good documentary, but it takes us awhile to get thru something. We fall asleep on the couch usually.

We watch far too much TV around here. We eat dinner in front of the TV most nights. That started during the pandemic when my husband was working at the dining room table, and has stuck for some reason.
