Honeymoon Photos

For our honeymoon 30 years ago, we went to 3 amazing cities – London, Amsterdam, and Paris. We had a cheap point-and-shoot camera, and of course it was film back then, so we don’t have a ton of pictures and what we have are not great. It’s not like today, where you can take an unlimited number of photos, and immediately see whether they are in focus, centered, etc. Here are a few pictures that I like. I guess Ted had the camera most of the time, because there are more pictures of me than there are of him.

We stayed in little Bed and Breakfasts. The one in London was OK, the one in Amsterdam was beautiful, and the one in Paris was kind of a dump (though the people were really nice and they did have roses in our room for us, since we told them we were on our Honeymoon). I’ve been back to Paris twice since then, but I haven’t yet been back to London or Amsterdam. I’d like to see them again, and also to see more of England than just London. It would be fun to see the beautiful countryside, perhaps go up to Ireland and Scotland, too.

We had great food (and crummy food), we saw plays, and we went to museums. We mostly were very careful with money, but had a couple of splurges (nicer meals). We saw a bit of family in London, but otherwise we were on our own. Ted had a cold, and I had a weird rash on my eyelids. We were jet lagged and woke up at 3am for the first few days. That was my first trip outside of the United States (except for a couple of day trips over the border into Mexico). We walked and ate and took public transportation, and basically soaked it all in. I wish we had more, better pictures, but I’m glad for these. It was a wonderful, wonderful trip.

P.S., I still have that little Coach bag, and Maya took it with her when she went to London and Paris in 2017, so I guess it has been to England more times than I have.

Thanks Elisabeth! I think Ted was looking through pictures back in July for our anniversary, and we came across these. Fun to see them!

How happy you both look! It’s fun that you took a honeymoon – maybe you need a second honeymoon to do all the things you didn’t get to do then.

What lovely memories! I don’t have many photos from early trips abroad either and they are poor quality. You’ve made me want to dig them out though. 🙂

That first photo is a terrific shot–it’s worthy of a portfolio. I bet you love looking at these pictures and remembering the days they were taken. And what an exciting honeymoon!

Thanks Nance! The picture at the top of the post is in Paris…I’m pretty sure we were on our way to the Picasso museum right then, which was within walking distance from our hotel.

IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME, RIGHT? Good in many ways, and far less focused on the pictures. And yet, not as many good pictures. So I can see it both ways.

These photos make me smile! 30 years! You have both aged very well! You had a really epic honeymoon adventure. I haven’t been to Amsterdam but hope to get there someday! It’s funny to think back on point and shoot photography. We had to wait sooo long to see pictures. I remember ordering doubles and triples so I could give photos to my friends, especially in college. Wow the world has changed! Now my kids want to see a picture as soon as I take one of them. They have no concept of delayed gratification!

    Oh this is so fun.
I sometimes think the mystery of analog photos is such a nice and magica thing. <you just dodnt know what would be on the photo until later. You were more careful taking the pictures I guess.

Your images are haveing a great vibe. Really love them.

I have been giving a trip to Amsterdam for my 40th birthday. We didn't go yet but I hope 2024 will be the year. I want to go to amsterdam since I am 15 years old. I hve seen London a couple of times but I also would love to see more of the country. And Scotland must be amazing.

I really enjoyed Amsterdam. I wish we had gone to the Van Gough museum, but we went to the Rijksmuseum instead, I wanted to see a specific painting I had studied in college. It’s a really charming city though!

Oh how wonderful. Thanks for sharing these photos and memories with us.

It’s hard to remember the times when we had to wait to get our photos developed at a drug store, hoping any of them turned out ok 😉

I loved this flashback! It was different times back then (point and shoot camera and all), but it’s really the memory that counts, isn’t it? I found similar pictures from a school trip to Vienna when I was back at my parents house.

Such a different time! I’m glad you found those pictures from your school trip. The memory is indeed what counts, but sometimes memory fades, especially for smaller moments, and it’s fun to find a picture.
