Happy Friday

Hey all,  it’s Friday, and I’ll admit that I’m glad.  I’m looking forward to sleeping in Saturday and Sunday, maybe wasting a bit of time watching 90210 on Soap TV.  (Do I need to clarify that I’m talking about Beverly Hills, 90210, vs. the current teen drama, known just as 90210?)

I know, loser. 😉

This morning I have meeting after meeting, and this afternoon Maya has her first school dance, and Ted has an interview in the City.   I hope they both go well. Especially the job interview.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Tomorrow evening, Maya and some of her classmates are volunteering at a dinner/fundraiser in San Francisco, raising money I believe for a school in Nicaragua, but I’m not positive on that one.  We’re driving a few kids in, and then we have to figure out what to do with ourselves for a few hours.  We’ve never had trouble with that, though. 😉

Last night was interesting…if you count boredom as interesting.  We went to see a local author, Adair Lara, give a talk.  She used to write a column for the SF Chronicle, which I really enjoyed.  I remember reading it and thinking, wow, you can make a living writing about your life?  People are really interested in that kind of thing?  It was kind of like a blog, you know?  Except with deadlines and word limits and so on.  Then back in maybe 2001, she published a book about her trials with her daughter’s tumultuous adolescence, titled Hold Me Close, Let Me Go.  I really liked the book, so I wanted to go see what she had to say.  There was no description of what she was going to be talking about, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  You know what?  BORING.  I would have probably enjoyed going and listening to her do some readings, perhaps from her upcoming book.  But while there was a bit of that, mostly she talked about the process of memoir writing.  Yawn.  I know such information is helpful for some people, that if you’re interested in writing a memoir, it might be helpful to hear someone else’s experiences in that area.  But at one point, she asked the audience if anyone there was interested in writing a memoir…and I didn’t see any hands go up.  Maybe people raised their hands surreptitiously or something, but as I didn’t see any, I thought it was kind of weird to keep talking about this process that no one was interested in.  Sigh.

Luckily, it was a free event, and only an hour long, so we got home in time to watch “The Office”, and SNL’s Weekend Update Thursday.  By the way, did any of you see that last night?  Their lampoon of Wednesday’s debate ala’ Joe the Plumber was hilarious.
