Flight of the Conchords, ‘Mutha Uckers’

Kookiejar over at A Fraternity of Dreamers has been talking for awhile of her passionate love for Flight of the Conchords. Since we didn’t have HBO, I had no idea what she was talking about. But recently, we decided not to put our life on hold anymore (what with the not moving and so on), and we went ahead and signed up for digital cable, which includes HBO. That means when the time comes, we can watch Big Love. Yay! Also, (and more importantly) we get Sci-Fi, which means we can watch Battlestar Galactica when it starts and repeats of Star Trek: The Next Generation for now, as well as repeats of 90210 on the Soap Opera Network. Yay!

We also have access to On Demand, which has 5 or 6 episodes of Flight of the Conchords listed. We’re having a lot of fun watching them, though I will admit that the episodes are uneven, with some being pretty darned funny, and others, just kind of funny. The video, above, is our favorite thus far. It was the first episode we saw, and the story is that Bret and Jermaine are being discriminated against by a fruit merchant, because of their Kiwi ways (they’re from New Zealand), and they’re sick of it. They have these silly fantasy song sequences, which I kinda think are the best part of the show. Watch and enjoy.

Maybe you posted this for me and me alone. The bike connection was great. The lousy fitting helmets were classic. And the bus scenes were right out of my past as a hippy trying to get around in Baltimore on a bike in the early 1970s. I would attempt to drag my bike on the bus when I was too lazy to ride. The looks of the other passengers looked just like the folks sitting there while these guys M-F’d their way through another song segment. And though I am truly shocked by the language. I thought Kiwis were more sophisticated than that. But I guess Australia has it’s influence on NZ just like the US has on Canada.

Great video. One more reason to wish for HBO this Christmas.

The scenes with the fruit vendor really make the video a lot funnier — ’cause it the culmination of their frustrations. There are so many great parts to this video, but one sequence has about 90% of the lyrics edited so only a few words are understandable. One was “Mango.” Funny stuff!

Ohhhhhhh!!! I’ve caught a few episodes of the Conchords and really think it’s a great show. I am absolutely addicted to Big Love. We’ve got nothing but reruns right now, and I think I’m going to have to check out the video store to see if I can get my hands on any of the episodes that I have missed.

As for 90210, I’m looking forward to seeing what the new show is going to be like, but I will always be a die hard fan of the original 90210. To show you how sad I am, I’ve actually got VIDEOS (as in VHS cassettes) of 90210 episodes that I taped when I was in high school. *sigh* There’s just something so special about the 90210 years…even though my high school years were nothing even remotely similar!

Ted saw that yesterday, Starshine! Exciting news.

Though honestly, I can’t get excited about actually watching the show. Perhaps I’m too old? Perhaps they’re too slick?

I don’t think I’ll be tuning into the new 90210 either. I’m so excited for you. We are working our way through Big Love season 1 right now and I have to say, I do enjoy it. But I can’t love it. hahaha My prudishness surfaces! Did I tell you that we plugged the comcast cable directly into the TV w/out a box and are now receiving signals for free pay per view movies??? CRAZY!
