Day 1

Day 1

(pretty image found here)

Day 1 of being unemployed.  I don’t mind not working so much, it’s the not getting paid that sucks. 😉   I’m going to return my new bike to REI in the next day or two.  I called today, and they’ll give me a full refund.  That’s good news.  I like the bike, but I can’t see spending the money on it when I am going to need interview clothes and clothes for a job that doesn’t occur in my bedroom.  Sigh.  I like shopping for clothes, though, so it’s not all bad.

Spent today packing up my work computers and sending them to the company headquarters.  Not exactly a fun way to spend the day, but I guess it could be worse.  Cleaned up my desk and got things in order there.  Ted and I went for a nice bike ride in the cool sunshine (more rain expected this week, yay).  It made me realize that I’ll miss my bike, but I’ll be OK.  I still have my old bike, after all.  Maybe I’ll enter Michelle’s write away contest…the prize is a gift certificate towards a new bike. 😉

Maya has a friend over tonight, and I’m starting dinner.   Grilled steak, twice baked potatoes, and veggies.  Maybe we’ll go get ice cream after.

I hope your weekend is going well so far.

Very sorry to hear about you being laid off. Not going to tell you, as some people have said to me when I’ve been unemployed, that it is all about new chances. Even though there is something to this, but only in hindsight, when you are in your new job. The only think that I ever managed to do well was during my last bout of unemployment, I took one day a week to go to a museum, gallery, or church and spent time looking at art. I always say I am going to be more active about view art exhibits, but never do. I wish you well in your search for a new job and I do hope you will share your reflections on these times. Even if you don’t feel so, you are an inspiration to many.

Sorry about your bike. My camera was stolen this weekend. I originally paid $500 for it. As you can probably tell from my blog, I take a lot of pictures. I feel guilty spending the money to replace it but I’m sure I will eventually. Good luck.
