Art ala 2020. I miss museums. A few years ago, I went to see an exhibit at a local museum with my dear friend Marilee. I paid for the admission to the exhibit, which was Degas, Impressionism, and the Millinery trade, and while we were in the gift shop at the end of the exhibit, she found out that the ticket price could be applied to an annual membership, and she paid the difference as a gift to me. A Day of ‘Firsts’
Today was a day of ‘firsts in awhile’…I haven’t done any of these things since SIP started in March. 1. Got $$ from the ATM 2. Went to the Farmer’s Market 3. Went to a movie I haven’t needed cash, really the place I spend it most is at the Farmer’s Market. I don’t know WHY I haven’t been going there, it’s obviously even more safe than the grocery store, but I did worry about being around too many people, and then there was smoke and hot days and blah blah blah. I’m so distraught about the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was an amazing woman, a gift to our country. But of course, the more difficult thing is how we go forward without her. Trump is going to appoint someone seriously right wing, I am sure, and McConnell is going to push them through the Senate. I GOT MY HAIR DONE!!!! My hair is somewhat high maintenance…color, highlights, trim. Also, somewhat low maintenance, because it is long and I don’t have bangs, so I don’t have to worry about the shape as much as if it were shorter. I last had my hair done professionally in mid-March, right before California went on lockdown. I’ve done a couple of Clairol ‘Root Touch Ups’ since then, which make me feel a LOT better, but still don’t look great. Our salons opened for a few weeks in July and then closed again. People sometimes ask what your favorite season is, and I have trouble with that one, because there are things I really like about each. Spring – rain and everything is green and flowers…Summer – great produce, listening to kids play in the pool, more relaxed vibe (at least when Maya was still in school). Autumn – changing leaves, cool crisp mornings and warm afternoons. Winter – cool, sometimes cold weather, being cozy inside when it is wet outdoors, rain, holidays. Know what season I hate? FIRE SEASON.

This is a somewhat blurry picture of my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Mata, taken when she was much younger than when I knew her. She retired just a few years after I was in her class. Nice vs. Kind
Ally had a post the other day about her rules for how to live her life, and in the comments, Nance mentioned that the only rule she lives by is to be kind. Then I saw this meme on FB, and it got me thinking about the difference between being nice and being kind. According to this post, the main difference is in your motivation.
