What Is Love?

Last night in yoga class, I was tied up in my own world and thoughts and pose, and then I looked over at Maya next to me, all twisty herself, and I thought, “child, no one will ever love you the way I do…”. And then, when my brain was supposed to be empty, or at least focusing on the pose, I drifted off into thinking about the different types of love. I mean, no one will ever love a child like their parents. No one. And perhaps mother’s love is different from a father’s love as well. And, no one will ever love a parent like their children. It’s a different love than any other out there.
When I say that, though, it kind of makes me feel like I’m saying this love is somehow more powerful or ‘better’ than other kinds of love. I’m not, at all. There are so many people in my life that I love deeply, and who love me, and they are all very different. The love we have for a child is more protective, because that’s our job as parents, to protect them. I think that ferocity can be confused as a more true and real love than others, but I think it’s just different.
I’m not sure where I’m going with this post…I was thinking of listing the different kinds of love: romantic, parental, friends, etc., but that’s somewhat boring. So I guess I would just ask you to meditate for a moment on the many people you love in this world, and how different the love you feel for one person is from that you feel for another. Remember how fortunate you are to have these people in your life. And enjoy the video. 😉

” I think I know what love is. I think I know. I think…” I’ve always liked this song more than “Groove is in the Heart.” But trying to focus on all the people I love in this world while this video is playing is not easy. 🙂
So here’s my advice: focus first on the people you love, then play the video.

You’re funny. 🙂 And of course, you’re right.

What a lovely post. Made me smile… thank you.
Aren’t we blessed, to love and be loved, in so many different ways by different people.
I think it’s the most powerful force on earth.
Have a wonderful weekend, lady.

The spinning neon platform shoe was so inane. It did NOT make me feel very loving. LOL.

Can’t. Look. Away. haha
For a long time, I thought for a long time that the love I felt for my mom and my child was the most powerful feeling in the world. Now I know…there in fact MORE love out there to be had!! I would love to sit and meditate on that for a moment. Thanks J for this lovely post. I hope you and your loved ones have a marvelous weekend.

Dee-liteful! Sorry.
This was a wonderful post. I think it’s wonderful that you do yoga with Maya too!
There are various types of love, and indeed it is a very good idea to stop and think about our loved ones and how lucky we are to have them around us.
Have a very happy father’s Day weekend with your family J. I know I will, as Ian is getting home after being away for a week.

Oh, and I didn’t forget that you wanted a strawberry/rhubarb recipe… problem is that I forgot the actual recipe, my MIL used to just throw it all together and let it simmer. I found a recipe online that is very similar to what she used to do:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_3566,00.html
She never bothered to blend it; just scooped it over ice cream, the texture of the soft rhubard and strawberry was Yummy!

That’s similar to the rhubarb-strawberry recipe my MIL taught me how to make. It is DELICIOUS! That was the first rhubarb recipe I ever learned! LOL! I also make a red currant-rhubarb torte, which is really light and fluffy…and oh, so yummy! I think those are the only two things I know how to make that call for rhubarb in the recipe. I’m always on the lookout for new recipes though (especially since we have SO MUCH rhubarb on our farm)!
J, I tried this wonderful dish at the Garden’s Gate Restaurant here on the Island the other night and thought of you. It was Lemon-Rhubarb Chicken and beautifully placed around the plate they had asparagus and these wonderful beets. I had mine with risotto cakes instead of a choice of potato. I was just really curious about the Lemon-Rhubarb because it sounded so different. Ooooooohhhh, it was gooooooooooooooooood!
If you, Py, Maya, Cherry, Eric, Autumn’s Mom (and her crew!) ever make it to my neck of the woods, I am sooooooo taking you to the Garden’s Gate!
