Weekend Wrap Up
This was one of those weekends where we didn’t do a whole lot. I like those weekends. I like busy weekends, too, but they’re definitely a different experience.
I spent entirely too much time working on my blog. I finally got through all 350+ posts and have them categorized the way I want them. I didn’t have a lot of luck with photos…seems like if I want them to be there, I’m going to have to upload them to flickr. Bah, what a pain in the butt.  Might not happen. Don’t hold your breath, just in case. 😉
I had some reading in mind…I bought a few magazines at the store on Friday. I got People, which creeped Ted out with its pictures of boney actresses. He had to turn it over. I got Real Simple, thinking they were going to give me great tips about how to organize my small kitchen. Nope, it was pretty much obvious crap, like “keep your olive oil near the stove, where you use it.” Duh. I have a New Yorker with an article in it about Bill Clinton that I’m in the middle of, but it’s 15 pages long, and I’m about 2/3 through. What I’ve gotten so far is that Bill Clinton likes to talk talk talk. Whew. Maybe that’s why Monica had relations with him…to shut him up. ;)  Also, of course, my book, which is very good.Â
Cherry came over on Friday and we visited and had some wine. (She only had one glass, which meant more for me. Yum.) After she went home, it was time for odd conversations with Ted, about what food we would or would not eat, and which Brady Bunch characters would do well on 90210. (Answer: Marcia, because she’s already bitchy.)
Saturday, we went and got some costumes for Halloween. Maya has been a cat for several years now, and is finally done with that. So we got a costume for her to be Tinkerbelle. Very cute. I’m going to be a witch. Can’t decide if I want to be a cute witch, ala’ Samantha from Bewitched, or a creepy witch, for which I would paint my nails black and get a fake nose, like the one they put on the witch in “Holy Grail”. Hmm. I have a few weeks to decide, it seems.
Yesterday was mostly relaxing. Went to breakfast with Ted while Maya catsat for some neighbors. Went downtown, because I wanted some new foundation. I watch “What Not to Wear” entirely too often, and I was intrigued by the spray-on kind that the make-up artist uses. So I went in search of that. I was going to go to Sephora, but Ted wasn’t excited about that, because the time he went there to get me some perfume, they were pretty rude. So I tried Macy’s, but they didn’t have any cool spray-on stuff. So I went to Sephora while Ted and Maya got sunglasses for him, and earrings for her. I looked around, but could only find one little spray-on foundation, and when I tested it, I really didn’t like the smell. And you can’t see the color of the foundation on the can or anything, so it was all too much of a pain. And no, no one came to see if I wanted any help. They asked me if I found what I was looking for, on my way out the door, but really, that’s not the same thing. I did get some more Lorac mascara, though I discovered it was brown this morning, when I had intended to buy black. I was focused on NOT getting waterproof, and assumed that because it was in the black mascara section, it was surely black. Wrong. Anyway, when I tried it this morning, I decided I like the brown mascara…a bit more natural looking with my blonde hair and pale skin. So maybe I’ll start a new trend. Then I went to Nordstrom to see about foundation. Found some that I really like, by Clarins. I’ve never tried their stuff before, and it wasn’t cheap, let me tell you. But really nice. I use tinted moisturizer in the summer, when matching the ever-changing skin tone is difficult, but I like a bit more coverage in the fall/winter. I asked the woman at the Clarins counter about the spray foundation, and she said that yeah, the pros use it, but it takes a professional touch to apply it properly. She said she didn’t even like to use it. I wasn’t sure what that meant, because you just spray it on the aplicator, and then put it on, right? But since I didn’t like the smell, I didn’t worry about it.Â
Then we went to look at cars. Achebe, the 20 year old Volvo, is on his last legs. We’re starting to think we might need to replace him soon. The thing is, we have a car payment on the other car already, and aren’t too excited about taking on another. Blech. So we’ll have to figure out what to do. We saw some nice used cars, but perhaps they weren’t used enough, because the payments were still going to be kinda steep.
This morning I used my groovy at home microdermabrasion kit, and with the new makeup, I’m feeling kinda spiffy. You know, because that’s important when you’re working at home.
Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Happy Monday!

I love those weekends where you don’t do too much. It feels so decadent not to be crazy busy (my Mom calls it being hibey dibey :))
No Sephora here, but I have ordered some stuff from them online. Finding the right makeup is a challenge sometimes. I’m not a fan of waterproof mascara. I think brown would look great on you – well apparently it does! 😉

I was really interested in the stuff like bare minerals, cuz I don’t like feeling like I have a ton of crap on my face. I ended up at the Benefit counter and buff dust to help with my redness and I got a light bronzer called Dallas (they have various shades). In the winter I add a cheap light liquid make up underneath to fight the redness. I get redder in the winter for whatever reason. I like when you find a friendly counter person who wants to play make up on your face. Sometimes they are just bitchy tho.
So, Ted hasn’t completely talked you into the lesbian lunchbox for your 2nd vehicle??? hahahaha M is totaly out of love with his lesbian suburu. You know, cuz it’s not a TRUCK!

I like your new black and white photo. It looks like it could appear on the jacket of your book!

Yes, I was going to say the same thing- that your photo looks like a professional headshot!
I know what you mean about more coverage in the cooler months for foundation. I have heard very good things about the Bare Escentuals or however they spell it.
Feeling spiffy is good!

Funny what a few glasses of Bourbon will do for a midnight pop cultural mash-up conversation…:-)

Congrats on the move to your own domain! I need to do that soon.
I almost bought “Real Simple,” but it seemed too thick and bloated with ads; like reading it wouldn’t be a very simple task. Glad to hear I’m not missing much!

Our ISP has been down all day, again, so I just added an answer to your comments on my blog a few minutes ago. I agree with you — Thor was a good dog, and the neighbors were less than responsible. And you and Richard were kids to be proud of. Many would have let Thor eat Grandma, you know.

J,you got a new photo of yourself. Nice I like it. Make up shopping is always hard. But what I have found is that when you can get a free makeover at nordstrom or Macy’s they find the perfect colors for you, and give you tips on how to put it on. Free makeovers are hard to find now. But still possible if you are nice to the right person at the make up counter. Glad you had a good weekend.
