Wedding Weekend
Saturday was a gorgeous day in Northern California…sunny but not hot. My friend Janet was in town to celebrate the wedding of another friend of ours, Gretchen. So we went to Sonoma for the wedding, which was held in the back yard of another friend of ours, Laura. Laura has an amazing back yard, you have to admit, with the best backyard view I’ve ever seen not involving an ocean. There are vineyards, which I assume are theirs, but I neglected to ask, so I could be wrong. There are rolling hills and trees, and when the light is just so, it’s pretty magical. She put a lot of work into getting the yard ready for the wedding, including adding this lovely brick path, and of course, flowers.
I won’t post pictures of the wedding, since I didn’t get any. I chose to enjoy the moment, rather than trying to capture it with my camera. There were professionals there for that, actually. But here’s a picture of my friend Janet (yes, she knows she got some sun, you don’t have to tell her), me in the middle, feeling short like I always do with this group, and the sister of the bride, Katie. Both of them were looking stunning as always, and actually, I cleaned up pretty well myself.
This is a shot while waiting for dinner. We chose poorly when we sat down, and our table was in the last group to be called for the buffet. You don’t know these people. I don’t know these people. But the view is gorgeous.
We ate and drank and danced and partied as hard as a bunch of mid-40s women can, and as is par for the course, ended up in Laura’s bedroom, with grapes and champagne and girl talk. Perfect. Any wedding that ends with the bride on the floor in her flip flops is a great wedding, no? I mean, as long as she’s not sick from too much drink or food poisoning or something, none of which happened here.
It was a wonderful, happy day. Thanks to Laura, for hosting the wedding. She’s actually considering renting out her place for weddings and parties in the future. I’m not sure I’d want to risk my gorgeous yard and house with strangers, but with a view like that, I’m sure she’d be successful at it. Thanks to Janet, for being an awesome date and sharing your hotel room with me. And thanks to Gretchen and Tom, for being so wonderful and sharing your magical day. I wish you many, many years of happiness and peace together.
