Warning…

It’s been 18 hours since my last Diet Coke.  Ack!  How do I feel, you may well ask?  Well, my neck hurts, right at the spot where it kind of meets my shoulder.  I’m guessing that has nothing to do with caffeine, and more to do with sleeping on it funny.   I’m also kind of cold.  But I just closed the window, so that should help.

The giving up of the diet coke has not been easy.  I enjoy it.  But I really need to take good care of my body, and there’s nothing in soda that’s good for me, so away it goes. It’s been over a month since I read that there may be a link between cola and bone loss, and I’ve been gradually cutting back.  From 4-5 (sometimes 6!) a day, down to 3, then to 2, then to 1, then to 2….wait, this is the wrong direction here, so yesterday I drank the last one in the fridge, and I didn’t buy any more.  Happily, no headache.  That’s a relief.  Maybe I’m not as addicted as I thought I was.

Does this mean I’ll never have another of my beloved diet cokes again, EVER?  No.  What it means to me is that I’ll have them as an occasional thing, maybe if I go out for a meal and I want one. But I have to get off, and stay off, of the habit of drinking the stuff all dang day.

Can I get an ‘attagirl’?  You can even sound like the lush in ‘Nine to Five’, if anyone besides me even knows what I’m talking about there.

You’re preaching to the choir here. I don’t drink diet drinks and I don’t like caffeine in my soda when I do drink a carbonated beverage. So, you betcha I’ll say, “‘attagirl.” Woo-hoo!

Yay, J! You definitely did the right thing by weening yourself off of it slowly. That is a big reason why you’re not having bad headaches. In college, I tried to give the stuff up cold turkey…bad idea…head…aching! So I decided to do the weening method, and voila! It worked! I still have sodas occassionally, but not everyday.

Good for you for taking good care of yourself! Here’s to your health!

Woo Hoo! Way to kick that addiction! It’s difficult, I know. After drinking several cups of coffee daily for years, I quit. Headaches for almost two weeks and lethargy for a whole month! Looking back, it was worth it. The only thing that I miss is blaming my early morning mistakes on a lack of caffeine.

Good girl. I am down to an occasional Pepsi. Went from a couple a day to one a day to one on the weekend to once in a while. Not easy to do, but it is possible and it feels good not to need it.

J- That is great. I stopped Starbucks last weekend when I started feeling really sick. So here it is Thursday and I am java free. YAY for both of us!

About giving up diet coke: I just returned from Costa Rica where I had no coke for 6 days. Now I noticed several things about my health. No back pain, no gas, etc. I wonder, could I blame coke for these ills?
