Vacation Wrap Up
Maya on the lake, enjoying the view of blue, blue water
We’re home now. We had a lovely time in Tahoe, though we were limited in our activities by Ted’s leg. (The antibiotics are doing their job, and he’s much better now.) So Ted couldn’t swim, not really up to hiking, that kind of thing. Thought we might see a dinner show at a casino, but there weren’t any while we were there. We did rent a motor boat and go out on the lake one afternoon, which was FUN. It was a pretty powerful boat, and we were going pretty fast, which was fun, though Maya and I got a little queasy. We rode over to Emerald Bay and back. Nice. The place we were staying was a house, so we had a kitchen, three TVs, board games, everything we might want. It was nice to cook our own meals, because of eating in restaurants so much while we were in San Francisco. Ted and I slept in the king sized bed downstairs, and Maya slept in the loft upstairs, which was odd…having her SO FAR away from us was weird…she was fine, but it was weird for us. The first night there, we were woken from a deep sleep by some coyotes howling outside, and from my deep sleep I thought it was Maya, SCREAMING for us…I bolted out of bed and up the stairs before Ted could tell me it was just coyotes. Maya was asleep, though I woke her up by running up the stairs. And Ted had trouble getting back to sleep the rest of the night, suddenly more worried about her being upstairs than he had been before.
Captain Ted on Tahoe
When I was about Maya’s age, I went to Tahoe with my Great Aunt Flo and her daughter, Carol. I remember driving to another lake one day, Fallen Leaf Lake. I didn’t remember much about it, other than that it was nice, and we had lunch, and I had a t-shirt. So one day this trip, we decided to drive down to Fallen Leaf Lake. I was starting to regret that decision, because it was a dusty, one lane road, and we kept having to pull over to let trucks or other cars by. But when we got there, it was lovely, and we had a nice lunch. Maya wanted to swim, but the swimming hole was taken by families who all knew each other, and she didn’t want to swim by herself. I didn’t have my suit, and we didn’t want any bacteria in Ted’s leg, so we didn’t want to go in with her. Besides, that water was COLD. Brrr. So we rented a pontoon boat (slow, slow boat), and went around the lake, and it was really, really pretty.
On the Pontoon, out on Fallen Leaf Lake
Yesterday we took a mild hike near Tahoe, easy on our feet (Maya and I were in sandals, not the best for hiking…we hadn’t intended to hike, or we would have worn better shoes), and easy on Ted’s leg, still somewhat sore. It was a little nature preserve area, very nice, and we found out that last Wednesday was Smokey the Bear’s birthday. Too bad we didn’t know, we would have gone and had some cake. I love Smokey. 😉 After that, we packed up the house, and came home. Nice to be in our own bed last night, nice to have a day to relax at home before we go back to work tomorrow.

We always do that too, come home with still one day left to just relax. 🙂 Glad you had a nice time.
There are coyotes in the canyon directly behind my house, and sometimes I wake up at night, too, thinking I hear my babies crying, even though my youngest baby is 14.

Your vacations looks and sounds wonderful. So fun that you could take Maya somewhere that you visited at her age. She is looking so grown up, btw! Such a lovely girl!

Lake Tahoe is just so gorgeous, I’m glad you got to enjoy some time on the water.
And as for the coyotes, when we first moved here, I thought they were drunken asshats down in the canyon below us. Now, I kind of like hearing them.
