The Girl Who Was Taken
The Girl Who Was Taken ~ Charlie Donlea
Megan and Nicole are two High School students, graduating students from different friend groups who disappear one night from the same party. Megan escapes their abductor 2 weeks later, but Nicole is gone. Gone gone.
Nicole’s sister, Livia is a forensic pathology fellow working to become a coroner. A year after the abduction, a body is found in a lake that Livia feels must somehow be connected to her sister, and she works with Megan to try to solve the mystery.
This book was recommended to me, and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it was pretty riveting, I really wanted to know what was going to happen, I wanted to find out who took the young women, and how one escaped and the other didn’t. On the other hand, there were a lot of red herrings that I felt were unnecessary and dishonest. Crime thrillers are not really my jam, so maybe I’m not being fair. Recomended? Sure, why not. I was definitely engaged.

This is nightmare territory… I wouldn’t pick it up willingly, but I wouldn’t be able to put it down without finding out how things ended.
Although with a title like that, it’s unlikely that I would be duped into picking it up in the first place, I guess 🙂

Totally nightmare territory.

I love mysteries and police procedurals, but only SOME thrillers for the same reasons you outlined. They often feel manipulative and over the top.

I liked this one well enough, but was glad that I didn’t pay for it.

I DO like mysteries and thrillers, and I was similarly conflicted about this one. There were some things that worked but it lacked a little something.

I just didn’t like the red herrings…which I guess in real life can happen too, right? Something that makes a person suspicious when they are not guilty.

I love mysteries and thrillers, although I wonder if my kid is too close in age to the victims for me to read this??? I hate when red herrings are unnecessary and dishonest.

Maybe…these girls are 18 I think, so older than your daughter. But maybe wait until she’s an adult anyway…

I don’t like crime thrillers at all! Especially not one with a missing Nicole!!!

I am not much of a thriller/crime reader.I think I will pass this one.
I actually only read from a Swiss author who lives in Canada and all her thrillers are showcasing different topics and lives of Candians.

Oh, interesting! Yeah, thrillers are not my favorite genre either, though when I read them I am definitely sucked in.

Yeah, I don’t think this one is for me. I’m not much into crime scene stuff or mysteries. If I wanna go down that rabbit hole, I can always watch a little Law and Order. right?

LOL, yep!
