Spotted Photos – Yellow

When iHanna announced that the April theme for her Spotted Photo Challenge would be ‘Yellow’, I thought, oh, I don’t think I have many yellow photos, this is going to be quick. Wrong. I have a ton. You’re going to get photos of Maya, Mulder, France, food, and flowers. Maybe a few other things too. Ready?

Here’s Maya at her first birthday party, held in a local park, where we had friends, family, pizza, and cake. It was a beautiful day.

Here she is in Juneau, Alaska! We’re visiting my mom, my brother, and my SIL, who live(d) there. (My mom died in 2008, my brother and SIL still live in Juneau.) She’s 3 and I love her yellow raincoat. I bought it too big and I would say it lasted her for at least 3 years.

In 2000, we went to Philadelphia so Ted could defend his dissertation, and paid a visit to Longwood Gardens. Cutie. My BFF lives about 10 minutes away in Chadds Ford and has a little independent bookstore in an antiques mall, if anyone is ever in the area (Daria and Diane).

And here we are at her college graduation in 2018.

Look, I didn’t even bother to crop this one for you. I took a picture of a photograph on my kitchen counter. This is me on my honeymoon, in London. I still have that little Coach bag. I went years without using it, but right now it’s my bag of choice. I loved that blazer, purchased at my favorite little boutique on Haight Street in San Francisco. (They used to have 3 or 4 locations, but I think Haight was the original. It’s been gone awhile now though.)

This picture is in Washington DC in November of 2019. My father was posthumously honored for his work as a grant writing professional, and my step-mom, my sister and her kids, and I were able to be there. We walked down the Mall to the Supreme Court, and this was one of the demonstrations we came across. This one was in defense of DACA I believe.

I took this picture at the aquarium in Maui in 2021. I have better pictures from that trip, but I love the bright yellow of the one fish in amongst all of that blue.

The yellow cranes give a nice spot of color in the reflection here, right? I love the little otter hanging out. I took this picture in Homer, Alaska on our trip in 2023.

Speaking of Alaska, here’s a photo from Anchorage. We went to this field, where you can sometimes spot a bear or a moose, but all we saw was pretty grass and some birds. The grass is marshy, the birds are eating bugs or fish or something.

Ready for some food pics? Ted and I went to Napa a few years ago in search of english muffins for Easter brunch, and we had a delicious lunch at a restaurant near the bakery. Now the bakery has a location in our town, so we can have the english muffins whenever. Too bad, it’s a nice excuse to go to Napa.

I showed you a different picture of Maya’s birthday cake recently, but here’s a close up. How did Sewdaye do that topping? I have no idea, it’s gorgeous though.

Bastille Day dinner one year. Cheese, fruit, bread, nuts, wine. We should probably celebrate Bastille Day more often.

My favorite black bean salad/salsa. Lots of lime, lots of garlic, lots of veggies, avocado. I love this recipe and look forward to summer so I can have it. Sometimes we have it as a side dish for bbq, sometimes as a dip with chips. I often bring it to summer parties.

I’m not sure why I love the cereal aisles in Europe, but I do. This is in a grocery store just outside of Paris, in Vincennes.

Sorbet dessert from a restaurant a few blocks from the grocery store above. SO good.

As long as we’re in France, I love these beautiful stained glass windows at the Jeanne d’ arc church in Rouen, Normandy. Not a LOT of yellow, but enough to count, I think.

Le sacrifice d’Isaac, or The sacrifice of Isaac, Marc Chagall. From his amazing series of the stories from the Old Testament. This was at the Chagall Museum in Nice, France.

I don’t know who the artist is for this piece of art, Centre Pompidou, Paris.

Eiffel Tower at night. Paris is a magical city, I hope I go back some day.

Monet’s garden, Giverny, between Paris and Rouen. I have pictures with more yellow, but I like this one where it’s just in there amongst all of the poppies and grasses.

Closer to home…Portland, Oregon in November 2023.

Flowers in front of a house where I used to deliver Meals on Wheels.

A pomegranate tree on one of our walks.

Autumn leaves on another walk near our house.

Here I am in a yellow bridesmaid’s dress in 1986. My mom is next to me in purple, I don’t know who the little girl is. That tan? That’s why I have to go to the dermatologist every year. My brother is over my shoulder in the tux, with the beard and the pink bow tie. We were both in the wedding party.

Puppy Boy on one of our Fabulous Friday walks. Our town has these pianos that they place around town for people to play during the summer, and I used to enjoy having Mulder hop up and pose. He was usually pretty good about smiling for the camera, as long as I had a treat in my hand.

Last but DEFINITELY not least, here’s the reason my page is loading slowly today. (I don’t think embedding videos is a great idea, but how can I resist?) I got Mulder a fun toy for his 10 month birthday, and he figures it out pretty quickly.

Mulder! So cute and smiley. Every time I would see a photo of him, all I wanted to do was hug him. So, so fluffy!

I think I have a very similar picture to your Homer, Alaska, one. I was so charmed by the otters and harbor seals when we were in Alaska that I kept snapping away every time I saw them. One morning, we were eating breakfast on our ship, and an otter floated over to join us.

These are some really great yellow photos, ranging from sentimental to artsy. I loved them all.

Thank you Nance! That Mulder was such a love bug, he would have loved to have some good Nance hugs. I think this is the only otter I saw on our trip, but we didn’t spend nearly as much time on the water as you did!

Mulder! I love the look on his face. So cheerful to see so many photos of yellow. It’s a color that I look awful in but adore seeing around me. Thanks for the smiles.

Ted used to ask me how I got so many pictures of Mulder smiling, and I said, Treats! I hadn’t figured that very obvious trick out with Genevieve.

When you do a prompt/meme, you do it very throughly. I would probably find one pic and hit the Escape button. I guess this us why I don’t do prompts. BTW I found some yellow croci yesterday. They will get posted in due course,

I think one of these promts, I just found one picture. I considered paring it down, but I love them all too much! LOL.

I love croci! Beautiful flowers, I will look forward to seeing it, you are such a wonderful photographer.

This is so impressive! What gorgeous pictures. I now want to get back on a plane and head immediately to Paris AND I’m hungry!
Love that honeymoon shot. It’s adorable. And you and Maya are both gorgeous (and clearly it’s shining out from the inside, too).

I pretty much live in a constant state of wanting to get on a plane and go to Paris. I will admit that when I was there last, after almost 3 weeks away, I was kind of homesick and tired and ready to come home. But once I had been home a bit, I was ready to go back. If I had had Ted, Maya, and Mulder with me, I doubt I would have wanted to come home at all. j’adore Paris.

How clever of Mulder! That was quick work.
Loved the retrospective pictures–your honeymoon picture is so chic! And your Maya is adorable at every stage.
And yes–such a through treatment of the yellow prompt!

I love this post Julie! I love yellow, too, such a bright colour, not enough of it. Mulder, so adorable.
I feel the need to go to Paris again, you’ve got such great photos, I can’t believe it’s been a year, never get enough. Your family photos are precious too!

Aw, Mudler. He got the bee! These are great photos. I espeically love the one of you and Maya at her graduation. What a wonderful picture. You both look so beautful and joyful. Her first birthday party pic, so cute!

    • J

Thanks Ernie! That was a photo from the professional photographer, and I look MUCH better in it than in pictures taken by family. Something to be said for having a pro around, right?

  • Margaret

I love all your photos! You look good in yellow-most don’t. It’s not one of my colors at all. I think I’ve been to the Chagall, a very modern place? I spent some time in Nice so I got to see quite a bit.

I’ve posted the wedding photo before, and gotten that Princess Di comment…I think it’s the hair and the side eye, but regardless, I’ll take it!

That corn dish is wonderful. Make it when your tomatoes come in!
