Someone Else’s Shoes

Someone Else’s Shoes ~ Jojo Moyes

Two middle aged women accidentally swap gym bags, putting Nisha and Sam quite literally in each other’s shoes. Nisha is extremely wealthy, or more accurately, she is the wife of a very wealthy man. She keeps her body a certain way (very thin, expensive haircuts and so on), dresses a certain way (think Chanel suits and Louboutin heels), and lives in such a way as to make life extremely easy for her much older husband.

Sam is struggling to keep her household afloat. She is in low level sales, and her husband is suffering a serious bout of depression and hasn’t worked in a while. When Sam has to go on a sales call, and the only shoes she has are Nisha’s beautiful Louboutins, she is surprised by how much confidence they give her.

Nisha’s life is coincidentally thrown into chaos, and she very much wants her shoes back, but she has no idea who has them. Sam intends to return the shoes, but she has a lot going on right now.

I picked this book up at the bookstore, I had never read any books by Moyes before. It looked like a fun romp, which it was. Reading it was like watching a rom-com or a buddy movie. I enjoyed it, but didn’t love it. Recommended for a fun weekend read.

I like this author well enough for an easy read, but this was not my favorite book of hers. I liked Giver of Stars and Me Before You better (although she then went on to make two sequels to MBY, and I did not really like those as much either). However, for a quick and easy read (although not always an “easy” subject) she does a good enough job.

I read Me Before You recently, I picked it up at a Little Free Library. I liked it about as much as I liked this one, which is to say it was OK. I doubt I will read the sequels. For a free book though, it kept my interest!

I’ve seen this author at the airport and watched some of the movie based on her book _Me Before You_ on an airplane… I might watch this as a movie, I think?

I think it would be fun to watch as a movie, and an airplane would be the perfect place! I didn’t know they made Me Before You into a movie. I thought about doubling up my review for this book and MBY, because I read them both recently and because they are the same author, but I didn’t get around to it and now it’s too late.

I just watched _My Old Ass_ also recommended by you…

        It was *delightful*

        I enjoyed every minute…

I figured out the big reveal just as she was saying it, and then I was crying about getting one more hug in with Scout. Haha, My husband was very understanding…

I have enver read any of her books. I bet these are what I call easy entertainmemt books. read and enjoy but forget when done. i would never purchase such a book to be honest but I would listen to an audiobook fom the library i need some mindless entertainment.

That’s exactly what they are, though I will confess that I did purchase this book at a local bookstore. Her other book I got at a Little Free Library, which is where I will likely deposit both of them soon.

That IS a fun scenario. I kind of hated Me Before You – not even sure I can articulate why – but this is a less fraught plot, so it might work better.
Our friends have a big Christmas party every year, and one year someone wore our friend Tony’s shoes home – similar but not quite the same. It ended up in a hilarious email chain. I can’t even remember if he ever got them back.

I often read Jojo Moyes reviews and think should I find a copy and read one but then quite get to that point. I read so little fiction these days as I cannot seem to find anything that really pulls me in, I am not entirely sure this would although the premise sounds hillarious!

Too bad you’re not closer, I would send you both of mine. Though if you’re not into fiction right now, this may not be your jam.

I haven’t read this, but I read Moyes’ Me Before You and really enjoyed that one. I didn’t read the sequels because I heard they weren’t very good, which is disappointing. Anyway- if you liked this one, I think you would really like Me Before You.

Thanks Jenny, I read Me Before You…I didn’t love it, not sure why, but I did like it. It kept me going for sure.
