Say You’ll Remember Me
Say You’ll Remember Me ~ Abby Jimenez
Xavier is a young veterinarian with a relatively new practice in Minnesota. He has a small set of close friends, but is an only child and is estranged from his abusive parents. Samantha is a social media content provider for a mustard company, and brings her new kitten to Xavier’s practice. They do not get on well, but cannot stop thinking about each other. A few weeks later, she brings her kitten back in for a checkup, she’s taking it on a flight to California and needs a clean bill of health. This time they get on much better, and he asks her out. They have one incredible date, and then she leaves. It turns out she is not going to California on a trip. She’s moving there permanently to help care for her mother, who has early onset dementia. Their attraction is strong, and though they know a 2,000 mile distance is too much, they cannot stop thinking about each other. What to do?
I thought this book was OK. I liked both characters, I was glad that what was keeping them apart was valid and not a stupid misunderstanding. I liked a lot of the secondary characters. But I didn’t love it. I felt like the resolution was too convenient, and unrealistic. Recommended? If you’re a fan of Jimenez, yes. As an intro to her work, I would probably skip it.

I may have tried one of her books (or Emily Henry?) and didn’t care for it. I felt like it was a step up from a Harlequin romance, admittedly with better writing.

These books could easily be made into Hallmark movies…but maybe not, because her books do have a more serious side. In the last book of hers that I read, it was organ donation, and in this one it was dementia. Like I said, I liked it, but didn’t love it. I haven’t read any Emily Henry books.

Did he fat shame the kitten? Lol. I love Abby Jiminez on social media, so I keep thinking maybe I should try one of her books even though they’re not really my type, but it might just be best to keep loving her posts.

LOL, well, the kitten is born without a butthole, and needs surgery. He seems like a very caring, ethical vet. I liked that about him.

THAT’S A THING?
There’s a thing in my comments about fat-shaming vets that I was riffing on.
J
LOL, vets fat shaming pets would be bad, right?

It sounds like an interesting enough premise, but probably not my sort of book. A cat with no butt home? Yikes.
J
To be fair, it’s a very small part of the story, and is resolved quickly.

I’m not much for romance (with the exception of Hallmark-type movies at Christmas, preferabley gay ones) but that’s a pretty good meet-cute. Everything is better with a kitten.

Bonus content! There’s a kitten AND a dog, and no animals were harmed in the writing of this book!

Meh! I never read romances and now I know why. Seriously- I’m sure there are some great ones out there. I would be open to trying one, but only if I knew it was really, really good. I know this author is popular but her books just don’t appeal to me.

Sounds like a definite ‘skip it!’ to me!

It’s not generally my genre, but I’ve enjoyed the two books that I’ve read by her.
