(Not) Wordless Wednesday – Aunt Flo is 100!
My Great Aunt Flo turned 100 yesterday! She is the first person in my family to make this milestone age. She had some visits today from local family, and there will be a party for her this weekend, which we will attend. Aunt Flo is strong, sweet, generous, and devoted. She is dearly loved. She was married on her 26th birthday, which was also my mom’s 8th birthday. She was in the hospital room with my mom when I was born. She was widowed at 37. She has devoted most of rest of her life to caring for family…a cousin, her parents, my grandma. She can no longer live at home, and is in a care facility about an hour and a half from us. Her hearing is terrible, and she is bed-bound. She has a sweet tooth and ate 2 bowls of ice cream today. She loves her family, and prefers a roll of toilet paper nearby instead of Kleenex. She knows her mind.
Happy Birthday Aunt Flo, we’re looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

Happy birthday Aunt Flo! My great grandmother lived to be 103 and we went there for her 100th birthday; I think I was not very old at the time. However, there are some good genes in the family! I hope you have a great time with your family this weekend.

Thanks Kyria! Wow, 103…that’s amazing.

Oh my goodness, HAPPY CENTENARY, Aunt Flo! I can only imagine what a full and interesting life she’s led. How wonderful that you have her in your life. Love that she celebrated with two bowls of ice cream.

Thanks Suzanne!

Happy birthday to your aunt. But wow, a widow at 37!! Gah!!! How heartbreaking. We’ve had a few people celebrate their 100th within our family, most recently my grandma. She really did not want to celebrate her birthday, though, because she loathes attention. But they eventually convinced her that we needed to have a party because people wanted to celebrate her. She was in such good health at that time so it was a really wonderful celebration.
I love that your aunt had 2 bowls of ice cream. I’d want that for breakfast/lunch/dinner if I was 100!

She’s beautiful and looks much younger than 100! I’m with her on the ice cream–yummy. 🙂
J
Thank you Margaret!

Two bowls of ice cream is the perfect way to celebrate turning 100! I’m liking this woman and her spunk.
J
Thanks Ally, she is definitely spunky

How lovely! I want to eat ice cream on my 100th birthday, too.
J
Sarah, I’m not sure I want to live to 100, but if I do, there had better be ice cream involved!

What an amazing mile stone. Aunt Flo sounds like a fun person.
I’ve know one person (in my childhood) who was ovver 100 years old. He always swept the floors and packeged seeds.
In my family most people hit at least 90 years but no one yet made it to 100. What an achievement and what Aunt Flo has seen in her life.
J
Thanks Tobia! We’ve had a couple of people get to be above 90, and my paternal grandma was 98, but Aunt Flo is the first to hit 100.

Happy birthday, Aunt Flo! (I have an Aunt Flo, too! She’s awesome, too! It must be in the name.)
J
Aunt Flos are the best!

Oh, sweet Aunt Flo. I feel like everyone has a story and I really enjoy learning about other people and how other people journey through life. A widow at 37? Heart breaking. I laughed at the toilet paper vs the kleenex next to her bed. I guess it was easy to remember her anniversary. This was a lovely tribute to her. Happy birthday. I hope you enjoyed your visit with her.
J
Thanks Ernie, she’s definitely a special woman, we are so lucky to have her in our lives.

Aunt Flo seems to be a bright light for others. And who can argue with ice cream on your birthday? I hope she had at least some ice cream for breakfast. It’s probably better than some cereals. 😉
J
LOL on ice cream for breakfast. That sounds pretty good to me!
