Meme Monday

Not actually a meme…it’s a book apparently. But it made me laugh, to think of poor stick man and everything happening to him on the same day. I think we can all relate, and feel like we’ve had days like this.

I don’t feel like I have a lot to say today. We’ve had some rain, though not enough. Seems like the Sierras are getting snow, which is the most important thing. Our shower door broke, so we had to buy a new one. Luckily it is not so broken that we can’t use the shower in the mean time, as it will not be delivered until early March.

I listened to some of the impeachment trial of asshat, and I was impressed by the case put forth for conviction. I was not at all surprised that things went the way they did, though. I do hope that he is convicted in some court or another, and that he cannot run for office again.

Saturday I had a zoom call with my friend Janet, who lives in Texas and is not at all used to the weather they are having, though she has lived in New York and DC, so it’s not a complete shock either. I don’t know why we haven’t done this before, it was so nice to sit down and talk to her, and see her pretty face. We bought the same bottle of wine, so it felt like we were sharing, and were delighted to learn that we had the same wine glasses. We had a lovely Chardonnay, Chateau Montelena, made famous by the film, ‘Bottle Shock’, which I recently watched and enjoyed. It was delicious, though definitely a splurge wine. Both of us participated in ‘Dry January’, so we felt like it was OK to splurge a bit for our call. We’re thinking of making it a monthly thing, though I’m not sure whether I will spend $50 every time, that seems a bit crazy.

Speaking of spending money on wine, the last Saturday in February is ‘Open that bottle’ day, when you are supposed to pull out a bottle of wine that you’ve been saving for no particular reason, one that is expensive and special, open it and enjoy it. That doesn’t work so well here, because we don’t really keep wine in the house. We buy it and then we drink it. Though it would be an excuse to buy a fancy bottle if I am so inclined. Time will tell. How about you? Does ‘Open that bottle’ appeal to you?

Stick man’s really bad day cracked me up! I wasn’t surprised with impeachment trail, but that sorry excuse for a human being should be rotting away in prison somewhere in my opinion. Love how your phone call with your friend went and love the idea of ‘Open that bottle’ day, although I would have to go buy something special to open too.

Oh Martha, I do love to picture him rotting away in prison. I doubt that will ever happen, but one never knows. A girl can dream.

We’re like you in that we rarely have a special bottle of wine waiting to be opened, so I don’t think that ‘Open that bottle’ day is going to be a thing in this house. Poor stick man, he does have the worst luck.

I do like the sentiment behind Open That Bottle Day. We have a crazy expensive bottle in our cellar, given to me as a payment of sorts for a freelance job I did. It’s an Italian wine, barolo, I think, and it’s supposed to be in its window of perfect drinkability now.

What a great idea, having a video call with a good friend and sharing a bottle of the same wine.

I didn’t observe Dry January, but I’m finding my tolerance for alcohol has really bottomed out. One glass and I definitely start feeling it. Gone are the days of truly sharing a bottle of wine. I’m lucky to drink two real pours.

Oh Nance, Ted, your birthday brother, ADORES a good Barolo. If you decide to open it on Nov 27th, please report back as to what vineyard and if it was delicious. If I were opening that bottle, I think I would have it with gnocchi and a lamb ragu. Yum.

Ah, life is rough for stickman. As for ol’ what’s-his-name, I can only hope he will one day get his due. I like the idea of a virtual wine meet with a friend. Finally, ‘Open that bottle’ day I would save for when it could be shared but isn’t often these days.

Joared, hopefully by next February, we can share bottles of wine with those we love. Until then, virtual meet ups will have to be enough…
