Maya’s Granny Update
One of mom’s bloggy friends requested an update, which reminded me that I’ve been remiss in my duties. Pretending that all is normal with books and movies and recipes, when in reality life has been mighty stressful as of late. If you’re so inclined, there’s an update here.
Oh, and Maya finally got her ‘phase 2‘ braces today. Ouch. I treated her with a book from the bookstore, and a donut from Safeway. Plus Advil. Poor kid.
Oh again, Ted’s brother is doing much better after his bicycle accident, but needs to have a pin inserted to keep his collar bone aligned so it will heal correctly. He’s pretty upbeat about it, but still, it doesn’t sound like fun to me.
Oh again again, there’s a guy outside painting my door. Was brown, now is red. It’s kinda nice, and brightens the place up. Part of condo living, though, means we had no say in whether it was done or not, so it’s a good thing I like it. That’s not actually bad or stressful, but it lends to the feeling of unsettledness that we’re living with these days.

Sorry your mom is having such a hard time. I know that feeling of helplessness, but really, there’s little you could be doing. She might feel a bit better if you were there, but I know with my mom she was actually uncomfortable having me there and seeing her so vulnerable. She told me to “go home to my family”, and I told her she was my family, but she thought it better if I was with my kids and taking care of them.
It’s tough, but we still have our lives to deal with, and you are doing what you can.
I do pet therapy at a nursing care center one day a week (was there with my dog Darwin today) and we spend maybe five or ten minutes with a patient before they are tired and want to rest again. They really aren’t up for much at all most of the time. Many of them are just sleeping pretty much every time we’re there. So it’s not surprising that your mom is sleeping a lot. Hopefully she’ll get stronger soon.

Sorry your mom is having such a rough time of it J; I hope she’s feeling better and stronger soon.
And poor Maya; I suppose round 2 is necessary, but I feel for her, having worn braces, headgear the whole deal when I was a kid. But they wouldn’t let me keep my retainer (weird, I know), so I got my overbite back.
Liam is going to need orthodontics too (great genes; I wore them, his Dad wore Phase 1 and 2 as well). I’m just hoping we can put it off until he’s older too.

Hope Maya’s ok from the teeth torture. In a few years, once the braces are done – she’ll be happy and proud to grin when she take pictures. That’s what we tell my sister anyway – and she is!
