In the afterlife…
Do you think there’s food? I mean, with no body, no hunger, no need for nutrition, there wouldn’t be a need for food, right? And yet good food is such a wonderful part of life as we know it. Hmmm.
I was thinking about my mom, and how much it sucked that she had lost her appetite and her enjoyment of food after her surgery, because one of the things she was so looking forward to in coming to California is the wonderful produce. And when I brought it to her, she ate a little bit, but she didn’t enjoy it like she used to. She even gave some of the cherries that I brought her to the nurses, something that would never have happened before. Before, she would have been guarding them jealously. Mom not scarfing cherries is like mom not reading books, or mom not blogging. Just not right.
I miss you so much, mom. I hope that wherever you are, you are enjoying wonderful produce. Perhaps with your father and your grandfather, who always had the best fruits on his little farm.

I know my grandmother is not *literally* in heaven waving and smiling, but no one can stop me from thinking so if I want to, nor from talking to her whenever I want. Therefore, I certainly think your mother is enjoying a cornucopia of the freshest, most delectable produce every day.

You’re right about the fruits and veggies…Boy did she love ’em. And it was sad to see how disinterested she was in them for the last couple of months. 🙁

I think we will eat food in Heaven. The Bible teaches that we will have new bodies in Heaven. And one of the main images used to describe Heaven is that of a big wedding banquet feast!
Isn’t it interesting the things that the loss of a parent stirs up? My mind is constantly going, and my subconscious is having a ball sorting it all out at night with the wildest dreams.

Well, I always think about movies. I have seen a couple of movies where angels come to Earth and the first thing they do is eat something like pizza or fruits and they all comment how good it is to eat..

Nobody knows for sure what happens when we die because even those with near death experiences are still here when they talk about what they saw. So it’s all about someone’s belief. I happen to believe in reincarnation based on some of my experiences and what I have read. If that is so, then your mom will eventually, after a period of time on the ‘other’ side, be reborn into a new person as she was when she came this time from her previous lifetimes. It is way too complex to go into here but I have written some about it in my own blog. There are some interesting books on ideas relating to how it works. I don’t believe in a heaven and hell such as some do. It is all though about belief one way or the other despite how some are so sure they know. For me reincarnation made the most sense based on all I have observed but who says life has to make sense.

The chinese believe that you should leave LOTS of food at the grave site to see the dead on their way to the afterlife. We lived in Hawaii when I was very young, and right across the street was a huge chinese cemetery. My sister and I would go over and bring the fresh food home, and when my Dad found out he had a coniption fit. He explained why it was there, and we had to take it back….heads hanging in shame.
I am sure that Maya’s Granny is eating her fill of fresh strawberries and peaches and cherries and avocados. I just know she is.

I’ve always subscribed to the “Defending your Life” model, in which while you wait to see if you have to come back again, you get to stay in a nice hotel and eat whatever you want and not gain weight. It’s a very Buddhist movie, but I like that part of it.
I also, like Rain, believe in reincarnation. I’ve had too many experiences in my life that had to do with recognition of earlier time periods when I knew nothing about them to be explained by anything else.
