Picture and text totally cribbed (though shortened a bit) from Hungry Girl
Fiber One Original Bran Cereal vs. All-Bran Original Natural Wheat Bran High Fiber Cereal
Nutrition:
A half-cup serving of Fiber One has 60 calories, 1g fat, 105mg sodium, 25g carbs, 14g fiber, 0g sugars, and 2g protein.
Half a cup of All-Bran has 80 calories, 1g fat, 80mg sodium, 23g carbs, 10g fiber, 6g sugars, and 4g protein.
Calorie and sugar counters will appreciate Fiber One’s numbers — plus, F1 has 4 extra grams of fiber. Protein seekers and those totally opposed to artificial sweeteners (Fiber One is lightly sweetened with aspartame) may prefer All-Bran’s stats.
Taste:
All-Bran has a hay-like texture — we find it dry and unappealing.
While Fiber One is slightly sweet and perfectly crunchy, All-Bran tastes a lot like cardboard. Do not confuse these two!
Bottom Line:
Fiber One tastes better, has fewer calories, and contains more fiber. All-Bran just can’t hold a candle to the #1 bran cereal in the biz. Sorry!
Guess which cereal I bought on Sunday, thinking I was buying the other? Damn it. Sadly, this is NOT the first time I have made this mistake. And now that I opened it up and ate my first bowl of straw, I’m far too cheap to throw it away and go get some Fiber One.  So I’ll just have to eat it and suffer.
Sigh.

You are a better woman than I. I don’t eat straw. Sigh. I hate when I buy the wrong thing. Especially if I was looking forward to it. Booo

AM, I don’t know that I’m better. I think being that dang cheap might be considered a character flaw. But with cereal over $5 a box, I’ll be damned if I’m going to throw it away. I ate it Monday and Tuesday, but today, I had 1/2 of a bagel with cream cheese. There’s only so much a person can take. 😉

Just know that Fiber One has its draw-backs, too. See this post:

HA! Starshine, I remember that post. 🙂 Luckily for me, it doesn’t seem to do that to me. Whew.
Then again, I’ve never tried the bars, just the plain cereal.

Mmm Straw!
Did you have any berries with your straw?
While I am frugal with the cash (somewhat) I would toss the straw and go get what I really want. $3-4 for your happiness is worth it.
J
I eat it with raspberries, and it’s OK. Not good, but OK.

I miss the days of LIFE cereal… 🙁

Oh…J!If t makes you feel better, I got a box of No Name Raisin Bran instead of our regular Kellog’s Raisin Bran. Ummmm…BIG difference!!! I ended up eating a bowl of plain bran. Not too appealing. I’m sure by the time I reach the bottom of the box, I’ll find all the raisins. *sigh*
I have been eating my bran with a bit of fresh fruit (strawberries, nectarines and blueberries) and topped off with some yogurt with a sprinkle of ground flax seed. Seems to make the cereal taste a bit better 🙂
BTW, there’s something for you on my blog: http://lifeonmanitoulin.blogspot.com/2008/10/thank-you-thank-you-very-much.html

I’m with C
Kellog’s Raisin Bran for me, and I’ll take a dose or two of “Citrucel” for extra fiber!

I like raisin bran, too. I remember once I had a defective box! It was one of those single serving boxes, at a hotel, and it had zero raisins. Funny, huh? Two scoops, my ass!
I’m not going to fiber one for the fiber, though that helps…I’ve found the pounds creeping up on me lately, and so I’m trying to find easy ways of cutting a few back. Fiber one doesn’t have a lot of calories, and it’s tasty, especially with berries in it. Sigh. Being over 40 kinda sucks in some ways.

Can you use the cereal to make muffins? Just a thought…
