Happy Birthday, Richard!
Today is my brother Richard’s birthday, and even though he doesn’t read blogs (I don’t think), and certainly doesn’t read mine (he’s too busy making groovy cg art on his computer), I’ll wish him a wonderful birthday here.
The sucky part of living so far away from your family is that you can’t be with them on special days. Like today. If they hadn’t all deserted me by moving to Alaska, we could all go out to dinner tonight, and he and I could tease our poor mom mercilessly, or, perhaps, his lovely wife, Kathy, my mom, and I, could all gang up on Richard and tease him mercilessly. Ted and Maya would join right in for some ridicule, perhaps, and we’d be laughing and having fun.
So, dear Brother, have a great day. Eat some cake, or some pie, or whatever it is that you would like best this year. (Used to always be angel food cake…perhaps it still is…that’s the sucky thing about living so far away from your family…you may not even know their current favorite kind of cake.)
Stollen Update…found one at Cost Plus yesterday, from Germany. We had some for St. Nicholas Eve (last night), and we loved it. Ted thought it was food from the devil, since he hates dried fruit, and it’s pretty much a fruit cake. Happy St. Nicholas Day today!

Hey! Ricardo is…43? So, I guess he’ll be celebrating by drinking a whole lotta Dr. Pepper, playing Doom, and snacking on junk food? (See I’m trying to jump on the ridicule bandwagon). 😉
Happy birthday Richard! Don’t eat Stollen bread.

We will think of you three while we are at the Prospector having dinner this evening. I’ll give him your happy birthdays.

Happy Birthday Richard!
Say J, you can drop off your leftover Stollen over here! I’ll never buy one, and I haven’t made one for years, because really I don’t want to eat it all… and I will.

BTW my sister can’t be bothered to read my blog either. Partly because she doesn’t want to know what I think. LOL

Stollen is an acquired taste. Maybe you have to have eaten it as a child to really love it. Or, maybe you have to be sitting at a table with family and friends, fresh coffee brewing in the kitchen, Advent’s wreath candles burning, music playing… before those bits of fruit become tasty.

Lilalia, I think even then, Ted would be rooting around in the kitchen for some brownies or something. 🙂 He really hates dried fruit.
