Frou Frou ~ Holding Out for a Hero & Let Go

Any Bjork fans out there? We used to listen to a lot of Bjork, both on her own and as a member of The Sugarcubes. Frou Frou reminds me of a cross between Bjork and the electronica songs by Everything But the Girl. I think the first song I heard them perform was a remake of “Holding Out for a Hero”, which I believe was on the Shrek 2 soundtrack. I immediately recognized the song as being from “Footloose”, because I not only saw the movie a million and one times way back when, but I owned the “Footloose” soundtrack. I went looking for a youtube video, and couldn’t find one, probably because it’s just a soundtrack song and not something that was made for their one and only album. I like the song, though, so I kept looking. There are a lot of versions set to anime cartoons, but between the background dialog bleeding through into the song, and weird anime nudity (not much, but it’s still weird), I decided to go with this version.
This second video does a better job of capturing what Frou Frou is about, and has been featured in several movies, including “Garden State”. Here is where you might hear the comparison to Everything But the Girl, and perhaps Bjork as well. Enjoy!

‘Let Go’ is one of my favorite songs!!! I listen to it often.
BTW – I am playing the ‘Holding Out for a Hero’ video right now and Eric just laughed and said, “That’s a good remake of that song”, I said, “remake of what song?” and he totally pulled out the Footloose reference and even noted that its from the tractor chicken scene.

There’s much to be said for holding out, especially for a hero.

Oh, I LOVED “Holding out for a Hero” in the 80s!
My favorite Bjork song is “It’s Oh, So Quiet”, which isn’t really representative of her style on the whole, but I love it nonetheless!

Starshine, we love that song too!

I never liked the original Holding out for a Hero from Footloose, although every other song was great!
And Bjork, wow, I used to love her, although once she wore that swan/goose outfit to some awards show, I couldn’t take her seriously anymore ;).
I like Frou Frou’s sound, though, thanks for sharing the vids, J!

Will you lose all respect for me if I tell you I liked that swan dress? An eclectic, somewhat eccentric artist dressing like an eclectic, somewhat eccentric artist. Loved that. Not the dress for me, but I loved it on her.

Bjork is so cool, a real eccentric, which is a lost art here.

(showing my age) I can remember when Holding Out For A Hero was the theme tune to Cover up (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cover_Up)…
