Friday Wrap Up

It’s been a busy week…I didn’t do much posting this week, did I? The Thursday 13 took me forever, because I couldn’t find the time to scan pictures. And even then, I had some pictures for some of the places that I didn’t post, because I couldn’t be bothered. OK, I could be bothered, but not much. More interested in napping and cooking dinner in my free time. And I didn’t have a lot of free time this week…Monday is exercise day…long walk, then video work out, then yoga, and by the time I get home at noon, I’m ready for a nap, and then it’s time to pick up Maya from school, and then dinner, and BSG (Battlestar Gallactica) and dinner. Yes, there’s time for pictures and blogging in there, but it didn’t happen.

Tuesday after I drove Maya to school I went to Stockton to see Grandma, who, by the way, looks AWESOME. Part of me wonders if part of her success is that my Great Aunt is there every day, all day, to support and encourage her. I wish my mom had had that. But Kate and I both had full time jobs to deal with, and couldn’t be there to support her all dang day every day. I’m not sure if it would have helped her if we had been there all day. She had a lot more strikes against her than Grandma, so it’s hard to say. Anyway, Grandma looks AWESOME, and seems on the full path to recovery. We won’t know for sure until she can put her weight on the leg she broke and see if it holds with her osteoporosis issues. Fingers crossed, OK?

Wednesday, I went to a training for our local Meals On Wheels, then came home and cleaned the bathroom (jealous much?), and then went to pick Maya up from school, and then, YAY, we went to see Star Trek on IMAX. It rocked! I liked the whole spin they put on it, which I won’t say here, since if you haven’t seen the movie, it would ruin the film for you.

Thursday, I went on my own to deliver for Meals On Wheels. Got a lot of “honeys” and so on. I think I’m going to like it. I’m thinking this is probably temporary, since once I find a job, I won’t be able to take a 2 1/2 to 3 hour lunch one day a week. But for now, I like the people, I like the feeling that I get from helping out. I’ll keep it up until I get a job, at least.

Today is my first day to stop and take a breath. Funny how I was able to get a lot more done when I was working. It was the same when I was in graduate school and working full time. I got a lot done, every minute was scheduled, and so on. Once I graduated, my effectiveness went to hell, but I got more sleep and felt more relaxed. So now, I’m unemployed, and suddenly getting Maya to school, exercising, grocery store, laundry, and my day is gone. It really wasn’t that way before. Anyway, today is a semi-relax day. Maya has an orthodontist appointment this afternoon (when we pay people to torture our children…ouch), then I have to prepare snack and meal, because her girl scout troop is coming to our house for dinner and a meeting. This weekend, no plans, which is nice, because after this week of not doing much, I feel worn out.

Next week, I’m going to look for work. In the current market, I don’t know if I’ll find anything. But as my friend Bill says, I only need one job, so the statistics don’t matter, right?

It’s amazing isn’t it? The more we have to do the more we get done. I know that as a long time stay-home mom, and now a work-at-home mom, it seems my friends who work outside the home have much more time (and energy) than me.

    It’s a modern phenomenon I guess.

I took the boys to the dentist earlier this week and I kept thinking how much I’d love to just work til 3 PM. Then I can have extra time for errands and appointments or you know, naps. Keeping busy is good, while still relaxing and enjoying each day. 😉

As an insomniac, sometimes I wake up early with lots of time to read from the stack of newspapers, and inevitably am caught short by the clock and rushing to catch up to my commute. Other mornings I wake at the regular time, monitor the clock and keep ahead of the curve, so I have extra time.

I think the phenomenon of being caught up while employed vs. wondering where the time went when not employed is like that.

The notion you have all the time in the world affords you the chance to navel gaze, or spend extra time with some task, and when next you look at the clock you wonder what gremlins pushed the hands forward.

Or jogged the digits ahead, to catch up to the current gadgetry …

Mrs. Ombud is keen to see Star Trek, too. Would you say it’s a good one for someone who watched all the original TV episodes, but barely kept up with the movies?

    Hi Jules,

We went to see Star Trek this weekend, too! I’m not into Star Trek or anything sci-fi too much, but I really enjoyed the Star Trek movie! What did you think of the Spock/Ohura (sp?) story line? I loved it, but their kisses seemed rather unpassionate. 🙂

Since I started working at this new job, it seems like no matter how efficient I am with my time, there’s never really enough of it to finish all my tasks for the day. Inevitably there are “carry overs” to my To Do list every day.

On another note… Star Trek was pretty good! 🙂

I really want to see Star Trek! Aside from that, I seem to remember the days flying by when I was unemployed too. I also took on volunteer work, which helped. No kids (or supermum) at that time though. Felt like it would grind on forever. It didn’t, though.
