Friday Randomness

Happy Halloween! The decorations at this house were not nearly as charming as skeletons playing banjos or ghosts on swings, but wow, it did scare me a bit when I came around the corner and saw it. Creepy.

I don’t have a lot of randomness this week, but I did take some pictures. I went to the farmers’ market last weekend and got some berries and tomatoes. And apparently took pictures only of things I did not buy.

I went to the weekly protest, which was much smaller than the big No Kings protest, but still about 125 – 150 people.

Inspired by Diane’s post in which she has been watching for flowers that are still in bloom on her walks for Elisabeth’s CBWC*. I kept my eyes out for flowers. The red rose on the fence is a clip of some kind. Hair? Clothing? No idea.

*Wordpress is being an ass, and for some reason I cannot link to Elisabeth’s blog right now. I went into code editor, no good. I try in blocks, but it doesn’t give me the link option. Bad blog etiquette, but I suspect you all know of Elisabeth and her Cool Bloggers Walking Club. Stupid WordPress. I’ve been fighting with this for 40 minutes and I am done.

One morning I took a walk to one of our local parks, and passed a sign that said “Caution” Bees, which made me wonder why “Caution” was in quotation marks. Happy to see the No Kings sign in front of a house that Mulder and I used to pass quite often. Looked across the pond to see if there was pretty fall foliage, but there wasn’t much.

My decluttering project continues. Yesterday I had a few quiet hours so I went through my file cabinet, which was very satisfying. It’s much more organized in there now, and I got rid of a lot of unneeded paperwork. For my Buy Nothing group, I gave away a kite and a razor with some blades that I had bought Maya at Costco, but they gave her a rash. She’s always been sensitive.

Lastly, here are a few Halloween photos. Me as a kitty, back Ted and I were dating. He’s skeletor or something. Maya with her pumpkin, which she was too tender hearted to carve, so she drew a face on it. Maya and me, maybe when she’s 3 or 4. She’s the kitty now, and I’m Little Red Riding Hood. I always thought Mulder would make an amazing Big Bad Wolf, but he hated clothing so much, we never tried.

Eek! That house is seriously scary- I’ll bet that’s going to scare a lot of people. But I love it- that’s what Halloween is all about. Speaking of which- Ted’s skeleton costume was creepy (those eyes!) I’m loving all the throwback photos I’m seeing people’s posts- Maya was a cutie.
    Happy Halloween!

I think the little, ongoing protests are important and the big, more spaced out ones are important, and they are all important to show that discontent is deep and widespread and not going away.

Good for you, keeping up with the decluttering and doing it wisely. It’s wonderful that you’re finding homes for so many things.

Maya and her pumpkin! So sweet. As kids, we all carved into ours with reckless abandon, then tossed the guts and scraps into my dad’s compost pile. His roses were the envy of the neighbourhood, fed with rich soil from that pile.

There’s an article in the NYT about how gruesome some Halloween decorations have become and just what we as a society are trying to do when we cover our houses and yards with such awful sights, and whether or not we think about its effects on others.

I’m having trouble imagining Mulder as a big, bad anything!

Okay, that Pennywise garage peeper (technical term) is TERRIFYING and also I love it. Probably I would have loved it less when my kiddo was small, but now it just gives me delicious shivers. Yard decorations are SO gory these days and some of them are hyper realistic.

Love the Halloweens Past photos! So cute!

Why is WordPress such a jerk sometimes?!

Now I see why clowns got a scary reputation! Both my girls were kitties some years–or a tiger. They shared many costumes growing up. I was unimaginative! WP is misbehaving? I dread problems with it since I’m new and have little clue what I’m doing.
