Friday Randomness
Apparently I’m blogging every day in April. This was not intentional at first, but once I got to the middle of the month, I figured, ‘In for a Penny, In for a Pound’. Now that I’m near the end of the month, but not quite there, the suspense is growing. Will I make it? Will I find enough content? Time will tell. One thing I could do would be to NOT do Friday Randomness, and instead take each of these little tidbits and make each its own blogpost. Nah.

I didn’t take any pictures of last Saturday’s protest, but it was well attended (between 1,700 and 2,000). I have clicked on a couple of these FDT (Fuck Donald Trump) t-shirt ads on Facebook, and now I see different ones almost every time I sign in. I liked this one, with books and flowers. Also, I like a good v-neck tee.

Happy news from the cat adoption folks, cauliflower eared kitty Aristotle was adopted this week! Yay! He’s such a darling, and I hope he loves his new life living with a couple of local tattoo artists. Will he be a shop cat? I’m not sure. I immediately followed the tattoo parlor on Instagram, so if they share his picture, I will let you know. If I ever remember to check Instagram, which doesn’t happen very often.

Our neighbor had a bunch of appointments one day this week, and asked if I could check in on her sweet dog, Lucy. Check on her? Can she come stay with me for the day? YES! Yay! So here’s Lucy, hanging out on her little bed. She’s a funny girl, and would give me a little whiney bark when she wanted to be picked up and cuddled.

Ted and I were picking up delicious sides for our Mediterranean feast dinner last weekend, and came across this new place near the Mediterranean deli. We were intrigued…what are the things? Turns out there are lots of things that you boil together in a bag or something weird like that. Clams, shrimp, mussels, crawfish, corn, potatoes…and other non-boiled things – sausage, chicken tenders, French fries, garlic noodles, steamed rice. You know what’s not included for the $39.99 all you can eat price? Crab. Yep, the crab is going to cost you between $40 and $60 MORE, depending on whether you want king crab or not. Of course, you can order à la carte for a bit less money, this is the All You Can Eat (AYCE). But with the picture on the sign, wouldn’t you expect crab to be included in the $39.99 AYCE? Too bad.

Years ago I decided that artificial sweeteners are horrible for you and I gave up Diet Coke for several years. I backslid, however, and now I drink Coke Zero. Sigh. These stupid cans are trying to convince me to give it up again, just by being so damn dumb in my fridge.
Do you watch Real Time with Bill Maher? We do. Why? Sometimes he has interesting conversations, but OMG he’s an ass. He thinks all Muslims are terrorists, is a sexist creep, hates fat people, and stoked Asian Hate by calling COVID the China Flu. All he really has going for him is that he has dogs. We saw the recent episode where he talked about his dinner at the White House, and how the Trump he met was not the public Trump that we all see. This Trump had a sense of humor (because he laughed at Maher’s jokes) and was polite and gracious. So Trump fed his ego a bit, and suddenly he’s no longer a threat to our democracy. What an ass. Anyway, did you see Larry David’s bit in The NY Times, My Dinner with Adolf? Excellent.
A better TV choice is Your Friends and Neighbors on Apple TV. The premise is that Jon Hamm loses his high paying, prestigious job and his entire portfolio, so he starts burgling his wealthy friends. What could go wrong?

Twice a year, we get a ‘climate credit’ on our utility bill. In October, it is just one credit, for electricity. In April, it is for both electricity and gas. I am thankful for this credit, but I would appreciate it even more if they came in February and August, two months when we use our Heater / Air Conditioning a lot. But that would make sense, so we’ll ignore that. Boy, Pacific Power gets a big credit, I wonder if their customers pay more as well?
Weekend plans – today I am going to lunch/dinner with my friend Neva. I love Neva, but it’s one of those friendships where we try to avoid politics as much as possible. Tomorrow is the weekly protest to try to save democracy. Other than that, no big plans.

I read Larry David’s essay response in the NYT, and it was tremendous. I gave up on Maher years and years ago; he’s such an egomaniac that he’s just not interesting or fun(ny) anymore. He’s supremely lacking in self awareness, just like the felon rapist.
Aristotle is a great-looking cat with a terrific name. It lends itself to a good nickname, too, Ari. Both of them suit him.
I haven’t had soda in decades. What exactly is the difference between Diet Coke and Coke Zero?
J
Nance, YES, Maher is an egomaniac with no self awareness. And he’s an ass.
Coke Zero is a different sweetener, and definitely has a different taste.

Ummmm, how does a crab boil NOT include crab? Shame on them! But let’s forget about that and talk about Lucy! Ohhhhhh, she is the cutest little sweetie pie! I think I secretly want a little dog. That t-shirt is so clever, and it can even be worn in the future. The shorts though….ha! Ha!
J
Michelle, all of the tshirt ads I see have the same stupid shorts. They just swap in the shirt. It’s funny.
I’m not a little dog person, but I think I could be convinced.

Oh, that’s funny- I also mentioned Coke Zero in my post today. Yes, it’s not good for you, sigh. We’ve been getting a “healthier” (?) diet cola from Whole Foods- it’s sweetened with stevia and it actually, really tastes good! But- it’s their store brand, so you can only get it at Whole Foods, which means you have to be willing to shop there and support Amazon, etc. It’s a no win situation.
Anyway- that shirt is brilliant. At first I was like “Where the FDT?” Oh! Duh. I really like it. Can you share the link? I agree- there are so many good shirts, and I want all of them.
LUCY omg. What a cutie. And, hooray- I think Aristotle will be very happy with the tattoo artists- something just tells me he’s that sort of cat.
You’re doing “April NaBloPoMo!” I just invented that! You might as well keep going- you’re so close.
J
Jenny, next time I see the ad, I will get the link and send it to you! I have no idea whether the quality is any good or not.
I think you’re right about Aristotle, he’s going to be very happy in his new digs. I hope they keep his name, but that’s up to them.

You pack a lot into your posts, so writing everyday is very impressive, and I hope that you finish. I have drunk too much Diet Coke in my life because I love how it feels on my throat in a way that no other drink does. But I am pretty well down to 1/day, and I am pleased with that. Oh, I am the kind of guy who thinks that v-neck tees are extremely classy. ?
J
THEY ARE SO CLASSY!

Aristotle is such a perfect name for a tattoo parlour cat!
I didn’t get that T-shirt at first. Thanks to Jenny’s comment…I get it now 🙂
Wait – the CRAB isn’t included in the all-you-can-eat price? That is some extremely misleading marketing there.
And what a sweet puppy to hang out with for the day. She looks darling and I’m sure she loved all your attention <3
J
I know, I hope they keep the name. 🙂
The first few times I saw these FDT shirts with the FDT spelled into words, I didn’t get them either.
Regarding the AYCE, I KNOW. Ridiculous. But maybe a sign saying AYCE for $79.99 isn’t quite as appealing. Nor $99.99 (the price if you get the king crab legs.)

Maher bugs me. His entire being is too smug for me to take him seriously.
I don’t drink or eat any artficial sweetners because I cannot digest them so diet sodas aren’t for me. I’ve seen those cans though, they are clever.
Aristotle is a good name for a cat, anywhere. It fits.
J
SO SMUG. Blah.
We had a friend with a cat named Aristotle when I was a kid, he was a big orange tabby. You’re right, it’s an excellent name for a cat, or probably a dog as well.

V-neck is my favourite T-shirt style but they are so hard to find. That one is lovely. Lucy is gorgeous, so cute, and yay for cat adoption. I’ve never really got into diet drinks, I don’t like the after taste.
