Food Meme

I’ve been tagged by Ms. Mama, and since I do love food, I’m in. ๐Ÿ™‚

1. What’s your #1 comfort food? Um…maybe mac and cheese?

2. If you were on a deserted island, what one food would you want to have with you? Pasta with veggies.

3. What is/are your signature dishes? (What dishes are you ‘known’ for?) I don’t know if I’m ‘known for’ any dishes, but I’ve passed on my recipe (well, Greens recipe) for Black Bean Enchiladas, and I have gotten a few folks hooked on my version of my favorite pasta at California Pizza Kitchen. I love that dish. We eat it a lot. Probably a bit too often for Ted and Maya. I made it on Friday, and added fresh spinach. Yum.

4. It’s Friday night, you don’t know what to cook. You opt for…I think I just answered that one…or else I get Ted to make either lamb curry (YUM!) or Rib Eye steaks. Also yum.

5. What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to food? Salt. Cheetos, Lays, Ruffles, nuts…I have zero willpower in the presence of these foods.

6. What food can you absolutely not eat? Organs. Blech.

7. You need a drink. You grab a….diet coke, or a glass of Chardonnay. Or maybe I’ll go to Ms. Mama’s place and get a margarita, but warning, I’m not cool, I like them blended. Is that OK?

8. What’s the most decadent dish you’ve had? Um…maybe lobster ravioli in a restaurant in Paris, right on the Seine? Or maybe the Peach Tarte that we had for dessert that same night…

9. What’s your favorite type of food? Pasta. Definitely. Though I also love pizza, Mexican, Indian, and French.

10. Favorite dish? That pasta I mentioned…I also love a good rack of lamb, or a nice salmon dish. MMMM.

11. If your partner could take you to any restaurant you wanted, which one would it be? No question, Laperouse in Paris. Oh.My.God. If it had to be in the U.S., maybe Striped Bass in Philly. That was pretty darned good.

12. Are you a soup or salad person? Depends. Maybe soup. But then again…

13. Buffet, take-out or sit-down restaurant? Sit down, almost every time. Buffet kind of overwhelms me and makes me feel a. sick to my stomach, b. like I’ll never be able to eat my money’s worth, and c., like I’m not sure how long the food has been sitting there.

14. What’s the most impressive dinner you’ve ever made? Rack of lamb, salad with sexy mushrooms, and some kind of tart for dessert.

15. Do you consider yourself a good cook? Yes. Not GREAT, but good. I like my food, and I’m never ashamed to have people eat what I’ve made for them.

16. Do you know what vichyssoise is? Yes, and I like it, though I think warmed cream of leek is better.

17. Who’s your favorite TV cook? Right now? Curtis Stone. Ted calls him my boyfriend. ๐Ÿ˜‰

18. Can you name at least three TV cooking personalities? Yes, easily. I’ll say Lydia, from Lydia’s Italian Kitchen on PBS, because I love her show. So down to earth. Ina Garten, because although she has the most annoying laugh EVER, her food is pretty darned tasty. And more recently we’ve started getting Nigela Lawson’s show, which is pretty amusing. Like her a lot.

19. Homemade or homemade from a box? Homemade, 95% of the time.

20. Name 3 or more other foodies you are going to tag. Three foodies? Hmmm….I’ll go for Susan in Italy, because her pictures of food make me DROOL, Cherry, because she loves to cook, and I haven’t seen anything foodish on her blog in awhile, and Erielle, because she cracks me up, and, like Susan, DROOL.

Py, I kinda thought it might be overkill to mention him in two questions in a row…thought I might make my husband jealous… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Great meme ๐Ÿ™‚ And yes, Ina does have a very irritating laugh. Everytime I hear her laugh, I half expect her to get an ax out and bury it in someone’s head…it’s that weird and perhaps a bit on the psychotic side.

I like them blended too, J. Either way actually. By “sexy mushrooms” do you mean the mushrooms that actually look like little penis’?! Just kidding. I hope to go to Paris one day becasue you make it sound as fabulous as I imagine it. Thanks for listing your loves!

  • Lalunas

I knew you loved pasta. I have never seen a sexy mushroom, where do you get those. I would like to go to Paris and eat with you at your favorite restaurant.

  • J

    Come on Laluna, let’s go!

The sexy mushrooms, I’m sorry to say, is a recipe I have long lost. It was a salad and you served the mushrooms sauteed or something, with herbs, but I can’t remember…it was very yummy, though. I called it sexy because I got the recipe from a magazine for sexy valentine’s dinners or something like that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I can see that. I have had sexy ‘shrooms of my own. Use big ones, little ones(whatever you prefer), slice them through…saute in a bit of butter and fresh garlic, sea salt & fresh cracked pepper, cook way down and deglaze with just a touch or two of some good balsamic. Ladle over your favorite greens and they are heavenly and very sexy. A kiss of blue cheese and yummers!

I used to joke that if it didn’t come in a box with directions, I couldn’t make it.

Sad to say not much has changed! YOU IMPRESS ME!
