Flow
Last night we watched a charming animated film, Flow via our HBO/Max app. Flow is the story of a cat who survives a cataclysmic flood in a world that is devoid of humans. There are traces of humans – a house, statues, sketches, boats, temples…but nothing very modern, no real idea of what has happened and where the people have gone. Where the people have gone is not important, nor is the reason for the sudden flood. The story is told from the cat’s point of view, and the cat does not know the cause of the flood.
Flow is different than most animated films. There are no human voices, no jokes or innuendos. Just a cat, a lot of water, and the animals that she comes across, befriends, hunts, escapes. (The cat’s sex is unknown, it’s a flaw of mine that in my mind it is a she. I should let it be gender neutral.) This was a charming, charming movie, and has won quite a few awards, including the Golden Globe for Best Animated Motion Picture, and has been nominated for 2 Academy Awards, Best International Feature Film and Best Animated Motion Picture. Highly recommended.

It was delightful, full of drama but not crazy.

I saw that this was available and it looks cute, in a wonderful non-Disney way. Thanks for the review.

I think you’d like it!

I wonder if it’ll show up as an option for us at the library, because we don’t get HBO/Max. It sounds good – probably because it is unique.

It’s available in several formats, I’m sure it will show up at the library eventually.

I saw this film at our film festival last fall. It is a lovely, at times quite funny, film. Definitely recommend!

I’m glad that you saw it and enjoyed it!

John and I saw “Flow” at our local art house theater and enjoyed it very much. In spite of the lack of dialogue, there is much communicated and messages subtly expressed

I agree, no (human) words were needed.

Thanks for putting this on my radar. Sounds like just the thing for a mellow evening with my teen…
(Changed my display name because you have one of your own with the other one and it just seemed right 🙂 )

No worries Maya! Feel free either way. My Maya doesn’t read my blog. Well, she commented once in December of 2008 to yell at me for saying that Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron was cute but dumb. She told me to RESIGN MY BLOG, which she said you have to read in Keith Olbermann’s voice. LOL.
