Felled by Migraine

Yesterday started innocently enough with my regular routine…exercise, breakfast, shower, work…but soon after starting work, I started experiencing what is called a migraine aura, which for me is blurry vision, which seems like maybe there’s some lotion on my contact lens or something.  If I ignore the aura, I then suffer nausea and vomiting, and of course, a headache (which feels mostly like a bad sinus headache).  If I nip it in the bud by taking some migraine meds, get off of the computer/tv/book, lay down with a sleep mask over my eyes, it rarely gets worse than slight nausea and slight headache.  I think I’ve had about 4 migraines in my life, perhaps 5, and they seem to be triggered by sinus issues.  Not fun.  Luckily for me, they’re not the debilitatingly painful headaches that many people get, but still, they’re bad enough.

Yesterday, as I was laying on my bed with my sleep mask on, I noticed a zig zag pattern of dark oranges and reds, similar to figure ‘f’ in the image above.  Kind of pretty, but not really what I wanted to be seeing at the time.

Anyway, after laying down for about an hour, I decided that looking at the computer screen for the rest of the day was not going to be a good idea, so Ted and I went out and I got my new bike!  YAY!  Oh, it’s a sweet little (big) bike, and I’m really looking forward to getting some time on it.  Not much today, though, because I took yesterday off from work, and now I need to play catchup.

All turned out OK.  My migraine went away, and I was over my nausea in time to go have dinner with my good friend Neva.  Yay!  Maya came with us, and we dined and shopped and had an all around lovely time.  We’re supposed to get some very badly needed rain around here in the next few days, so I’m hoping to get at least a short ride in today on the bike.  The bike is calling me, though…can you hear it?

I got my first migraine with the zigzag lines when I was pregnant with my first child and it scared the heck out of me as it was near the end of the pregnancy. At that time they didn’t seem to associate the light patterns with migraines and it took awhile before I found an answer which for me was a good osteopath and alignments. Since then I get them once in awhile but like you without a bad headache, just the light mess with my vision. If I get too many, I visit the chiropractor but otherwise, I try to loosen up my neck with stretches and see if it helps– which it often does

That bike is so you. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. It was fun taking the short ride to the grocery store today. Maybe there’s more of that in the future!

Ohhh…migraines are no fun. Glad it went away and that you were able to enjoy the rest of your day.

Ummm…I know I’ve been away from the blog world for too long when I pop on over here and don’t even recognize your site! Wow! Soooo different! Now I’m thinking that I need a blog facelift! 😉
