Let’s Do Yoga Together in February (starting tomorrow!)

A few weeks ago I invited you all to join me in a Saturday yoga practice, coinciding with my favorite* virtual yoga instructor Adrien’s January Saturday series. Sadly, my invitation went out when we were already over a week into January, so if you didn’t see my post within a day or two, you had already missed 2 Saturdays of ‘together yoga’. Sarah mentioned that she would love to do yoga together, but didn’t like to start in the middle of the month. I am nothing if not understanding of such a mindset, so I told her, hey, let’s do it in February. I sent her a text and asked what day might work best for her, and she said Saturday and Sunday both work, so I chose Saturday. (Do I have your number to text? If not, do you wish I did? Shoot me an email with your number at j_asregadoo AT Yahoo dot com, and we’ll be texting buddies! WhatsApp works too!)

Care to join us? If so, let’s do the Saturday videos on the calendar above together. Is yoga too much for you right now? I know several folks for whom the Saturday practices on the calendar are going to be too much. Believe me, I’ve been there, and I have some options for you! But first…what about tomorrow?

Because the first day of February is on a Sunday, and because a live practice would be amazing to do together, anyone want to join me this Saturday, January 31st, at 10am CST? Then other Saturdays will be whatever time you want.

OK, now for the videos.

Saturday, January 31 – This is the livestream, 10am CST, which you can find here.
Saturday, February 7 – Root Practice – 18 Minutes
Saturday, February 14 – Date Night Yoga – 38 Minutes
Saturday, February 21 – Trust the Process – 22 Minutes
Saturday, February 28 – Grounding into Gratitude – 34 Minutes

No downward dogs or plank poses for you right now? Here are some great options!

Saturday, February 7 – Wheelchair Yoga (no wheelchair required, it is chair yoga, mostly gentle upper body stretches that feel really good.) – 12 Minutes
Saturday, February 14 – Chair Yoga – This one has a both upper and lower body stretches. – 17 minutes
Saturday, February 21 – Yoga for Neck and Shoulders – Can be done on the ground or in a chair. Delicious. – 17 minutes
Saturday, February 28 – Yoga for Seniors – Again, can do a lot in the chair. This is a gentle class but a bit more challenging than the other three. – 29 minutes

If you think you might get more out of some meditation, here are a couple of options. Personally I struggle with meditation, which probably means I should do more of it. My brain is busy and I live in a small house. I should probably try these at 6am on a weekend when everyone else is asleep. (Not that I would get up for them, just if I happen to be up and no one else is.)

Find your Center – Grounding Body Scan Meditation – Flat on your back. Do it in bed if getting up and down from the floor is difficult right now. – 14 Minutes
Meditation for Anxiety – 14 Minutes
Meditation for Inner Peace – 11 Minutes
Stillness for Stress Relief – 16 Minutes

This is the link to the entire February playlist, if you’re interested, and here is the link to all of her playlists. You could save the February playlist, or just use the links I provided, above. We subscribe to YouTube premium, so I don’t see commercials. Some of these videos do have commercials, which is a buzz kill for sure. Happily, not all of them do.

My loose plan is that I stick with the monthly playlist, but I tend to move things around to fit my schedule. Want to know my schedule? No? Ignore this then.

Monday – Rest day from weights, but I work – hopefully at least 30 minute yoga, then a walk, then work.
Tuesday – Weights, then yoga, then walk, then work. Hopefully <20 minute yoga. Weights will also be closer to 20 minutes.
Wednesday – ditto Tuesday
Thursday – ditto Monday
Friday – Weights, then yoga, then walk. I don’t work (much) on Fridays, so try to fit in longer yoga and weights videos. Somehow I tend to fill up my Fridays with errands though.
Saturday – Weights, then yoga, then protest. Ideally I would take a walk too, but I don’t want to rush anyone, including myself, and I need to be in the shower by 10:30 to go to the protest. Sometimes we’re ready to go for a walk by 9:30, but not always.
Sunday – Weights, then yoga, then walk. Generally this is our best day for a good family walk with nowhere else to be. Often this is the best day of the week for weights and yoga too, because there is zero rush.

*Honestly, I have not tried many online yoga instructors. I tried one or two that I found to be meh, Ted said he liked Adriene, then I tried her videos back in late 2021 or early 2022, and found her quirkiness charming, and of course I fell in love with her dog, Benji. I upped my game to every day in January of 2024, and have not looked back. I’ve only missed a handful of days over the last 2 years, and my back, neck, and hips have never been happier.

I’ve been spending many Saturday mornings with grandsons, so it wouldn’t fit for me. I’ve always wanted to try yoga and did for a brief time decades ago. It was an in-person class though which wasn’t very comfortable for me. Who knew that I would be as inflexible as a plank of wood?

    • J

I struggle a lot with flexibility too. You might really like doing a gentle at home practice. If you are unfamiliar with the poses, she has a playlist called ‘foundations of yoga’, and also one for beginners.

I am loving all the blogger-led activities for February!

Adriene is the best and I would LOVE to join. I will try to make it tomorrow but it depends on who gets to drive my kid to her Saturday activity. For future Saturdays, I am in!

A regular yoga practice is amazing. I’m doing daily yoga (min. 10 min) and I love it so much. I use the Peloton classes, of course, but I’d love to check out Adriene sometime. I have heard of her yoga classes, but never tried one.

    • J

I hope you give her a try, see what you think. I think whatever brings you back to the mat for a regular practice is good. So in my case, it’s Adriene and Benji, and in your case it’s your Peloton. <3

Well, I can’t do the livestream because I’ll be at work. But I really do need to re-commit to yoga! I was doing it for a while, it was really helping my low back, and then I just stopped. WHY??? And I was doing Adriene’s videos! They were great! Although I can’t do the livestream, I’m going to do yoga at some point today. I’ll have to report on this tomorrow in the Weekly Rundown, so hopefully that will give me some accountability.

I have just done 31 days of yoga in January and decided to continue as much as possible and add in 10 min of core work daily. So this is so fun and I will join the Saturdays. Unfortunetly I missed the live call but with time differences its a stretch anyways. Oh well.

I am looking forward practicing tegther in mind even when not on the time spot.
And also hwo wonderful to add in classes when not being able to do planks and downward dogs. I overdone the weights and have hurt my right shoulder. Sigh.

Currently I am loving Kassandras yoga most. I find Adrienne a bit too quirky and loud these days but I loved her a lot when I started. It will be interesting to add her in again.

    • J

Yay! I will enjoy thinking of you doing your yoga along with me! I’m sorry that you hurt your shoulder. It’s hard sometimes to push yourself without injuring yourself.

    • J

Also, 31 days in January is what started me on my daily yoga for life. I noticed how much better my back and neck felt, so I decided to keep it up.

  • Ernie

I did yoga years ago. Maybe I’ll give this a try now and then. I do feel like I’m in a good groove with the Caroline Girvan YouTube classes plus the bike when time allows. There are so many yoga options. Thanks for clueing us into these classes.

I missed the live call, missed your Jan post, and missed last Saturday, BUT I am up for a challenge and will join you this weekend! I needed a bit of inspiration, so thanks! I will still also be walking at least 10,000 steps per day so this will be a great addition. I also am planning on adding one day of strength per week in some form! Thanks for this!

    • J

Yay! I think with all of that wonderful walking, some yoga will be helpful to keep you from getting stiff. I will be glad to have you along!
