Calling All Wordies!
I saw this over at the hidden side of a leaf.  A fun site called Free Rice, where they give you a word with a list of 4 synonyms…you pick the right one, they donate 10 grains of rice, which are paid for by advertisers to the page. Kind of like The Hunger Site, but with learning! For each correct answer, the next word gets a little harder. For each incorrect answer, the next word gets a little easier. Hey, you can show off (at least to yourself), learn something, and have fun, all while helping to alleviate hunger. Fun!

I loved that…a fun game with a purpose. I got up to 300 grains of rice. Now I’m hungry for breakfast. 🙂

I love things like that, I was always good at that portion of tests.

Since I’m not a good test taker, I hope they don’t subtract the amount of rice donated because of wrong answers.

10 WHOLE GRAINS of rice?!
i’ll have to answer, like, 100 questions to feed a person!

That was fun!
I’ve always been down on my level of vocab, so it was pretty cool to dissect the words to figure them out… AND doing something good.
Eric’ll love this!

That was so much fun! I know nothing about how these sites work but games like that are entertaining and couldn’t hurt.

Oooooo. This sounds like fun.
But seriously – like one grain of rice for one correct answer. That means I’ll have to work on the game for a week before I can feed one person for lunch. Very nice concept… requires mass participation indeed.

CK, it’s 10 for 1, which still isn’t much…but it’s an easy start. 🙂

That is a lot of fun. And how nice it is to know how to work cognates for meaning. Ah, the value of a Latin education.

Very fun–I just played until I’d donated 1000 grains . . . which doesn’t sound like a lot, but I just checked their totals. Since they started this on October 7th, they’ve donated 680,991,930 grains of rice . . . that’s a lot of meals!

Way fun! Thanks for telling us about it.
