Burma
That tiny country (not really tiny, not really)
in the middle of Asia,
flavored by India and Thailand and the middle east…
a tiny country (not really tiny, not really)
now named Myanmar, torn apart and wrecked
by a horrid combination of God’s wrath and man’s indifference.
Burma, a tiny country (not really tiny, not really)
full of suffering and sorrow and pain
Burma, that tiny country (not really tiny, not really)
if I knew how to pray, I would pray for you.

talk about feeling helpless. anything that anyone does to help is thwarted. i like your last line, and i concur.

The news is just heart-breaking–how can the military be so paranoid and so heartless? You just know that they don’t think of all those dying people as “people” at all–just as “rabble,” or some other derogatory term. But to deny them any sort of aid? Cruel. As if the dictatorship thing hadn’t established that already….

I think that the most heart breaking thing about all this is that the world is knocking at their door with aid and help, and Myanmar’s own government is denying its people the help they so desperately need. It’s sad.
