Meme Monday – Catching Up
Looking at this meme, you might think I had been to the beach. Perhaps back to Hawaii. Nope, life has been very local lately. I have no excuse for not posting here, other than laziness. I’ll catch you up, OK? Back in April, I took a drive out to see my Great Aunt for her 98th birthday. One of my cousins arranged a party at her retirement home, which was great. We had family come from as far as San Diego and Reno, and I saw folks I haven’t seen since I was 5 or 6. It was a relaxed event, KFC and strawberry pie. Aunt Flo’s memory is horrible,…

Jess’ Secret Signature Summer Salad
Tomorrow is my Great Aunt Flo’s 98th birthday, and we are going to gather to celebrate with her. It will be picnic type potluck outside at her retirement home, and the menu is mostly take out, KFC, Strawberry pie, that kind of thing. I decided to make a black bean and corn salad that I adore. I first got the recipe from my blog friend Jess Riley in 2007, and while I have it printed out, I had a horrible thought…what if she were to shutter her blog, and I lose my printed copy, and the recipe is gone forever???? I can’t bear the idea. So, I’m going to copy…

Friday Randomness
My darling friend Marilee, who lives in Upstate New York, near Niagara Falls, sent me a link to a Literature Clock. When you go to that website, a quote from literature will appear that corresponds (sometimes exactly, sometimes loosely) to the current time. I forget about it for days or weeks at a time, then I see it in my Safari tab, and I check it out. I like it, it’s a small pleasure. As you can see by my last 2 posts, Maya and Mulder both had birthdays recently. For Maya’s birthday, we had a party on Saturday, and the menu was appetizers…we have varied dietary restrictions around here,…

Meme Monday
I saw this meme the other day, and it made me laugh. Giving cats medication can be extremely difficult. Ted is deathly allergic to cats, so I haven’t had to deal with this particular problem in almost 40 years. When our sweet dog, Genevieve, was elderly, she had to take a lot of medication. One of the medications she had to take was a particularly nasty tasting powder…I accidentally got some on my finger once and licked it off in a moment of stupidity. Horrible. So she hated it. I worked so hard to get them in her…I used to buy capsules and fill them with the powder, then wrap…

Meme Monday – Truthy version
It’s true, right? What else is true… Well, the weather here in California is disgustingly beautiful. As I type this, Sunday in the first few minutes of the Super Bowl, it is 72 and sunny outside. We went for a walk this morning, and commented on our overall good moods being out in such lovely weather. Of course, we are hoping for a wet March, since forecasts are saying the rest of February will be much like the last 6 or 7 weeks have been…dry dry dry. Ted’s brother has an orange tree, and brought us a big bag of oranges yesterday. Today I went out and bought an electric…

Throwback Thursday
My BFF Rosemary sent me this picture a few weeks ago. Rosemary, her brother David, David’s girlfriend Stephani, and my brother Richard, we were all good friends. I am at David and Stephani’s wedding reception. I’m a bridesmaid, and that suntan tells you everything you need to know about why I go see a dermatologist every year now. My mom is smiling next to me, wearing purple, and Richard is a groomsman, and you can see him over my shoulder at the far right of the photo, with the beard. Richard was also very good friends with David and Stephani. David was the best man at Richard and Kathy’s wedding.…

Meme Monday
Life isn’t actually quite this bad, but I’ve been looking for an excuse to use this meme, so here it is. Have I used it before? I feel like I have. I also hate that they didn’t use quotation marks at the end. One of the most frustrating things about memes, really. When they say what you want, but fail in grammar, spelling, or punctuation. Our Saturday morning started with plans, which for Ted and Maya meant going to get their teeth cleaned, and for me meant going to lunch with a friend…a COVID lunch, as she has an infant granddaughter that she is going to go help care for,…

Wordle Wednesday
Are you playing Wordle, the online game that’s taking the internet by storm? I’m playing, and I really like it. I like that there is only one word per day, and that everyone gets the same word. It seems gentle to me, sort of like “The Great British Baking Show” (or Bake Off, if you’re somewhere where that term isn’t copyrighted). If you’re not playing, and you like puzzles, you might give it a try. It’s sort of like Mastermind, sort of like Hangman. You try to guess the 5-letter word of the day in 6 tries. You cannot use random letters, they have to be words. The yellow squares…
