Goodbye
Goodbye to those I loved, lost one sad spring… My Granddad, whom I never had the chance to meet… My dog, whom I cherished… My Grandpa, who spoiled me and who I loved utterly… Spring of ’88, a time of falling in love, while at the same time, saying goodbye, so sadly, over and over again. This is my attempt at the Sunday Scribblings challenge.

I’m Old…
Worse than being ‘Ma’amed’ at the grocery store, is when you’re buying fancy dog food at the neighborhood feed store, and the guy behind the counter says, “Your last name sounds familiar. Did you have any kids that went to (the local community college)”. My KIDS? Excuse me? Wait a minute, my Grandma was a Grandma at my age. A young grandma, but still….I’m officially OLD.

Crisis Averted…
No need to find out if the world will end or not, because of me having nothing to say. Shockingly, the source of my inspiration is me wanting to bestow major kudos on a conservative Christian Republican from Texas. From the A/P: Governor Rick Perry signed an order Friday making Texas the first state to require that schoolgirls get vaccinated against the sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer…. Beginning in September 2008, girls entering the sixth grade — meaning, generally, girls ages 11 and 12 — will have to get Gardasil, Merck & Co.’s new vaccine against strains of the human papillomavirus, or HPV. I’m going to ignore…

Testing a Theory Here…
If I have nothing to say, nothing to share on my bloggy blog today, no secrets or stories or even a meme or a recipe, will the world end? If Saturday fails to arrive, you know who to blame.

Thirteen Things…
It’s another of those days when I don’t have anything specific to talk about, so you get a bunch of mismatch stuff. Here goes. 1. I saw something on Yahoo yesterday, about Valentine mistakes you don’t want to make. Want to know what the mistakes were? Being too predictable. Roses, fancy dinner, sexy lingerie. See the picture here, from Yahoo? She’s pissed off, because he didn’t get it right. That makes me mad. Because the assumption is, he tried. He was trying to be romantic for Valentine’s day, and darn it, it just wasn’t good enough for her. I’m sure some women are truly like this, and I’m sure some…

Local Theater…
We have a semi-tradition, which is that once a year, we go to San Francisco to see “A Christmas Carol” at the American Conservatory Theater. It’s a nice tradition, gets us in the mood for Christmas, and sometimes there’s even ice cream involved. Well, with one thing and another, we didn’t go this year. So, should it be a year without theater for us? I hope not. Ted did a spot on the radio the other day for the Reduced Shakespeare Company, which is in our humble town for the month of February. I’m hoping we can go…I’d like to see The Complete History of America (abridged). Could be pretty…

Our Newest Addiction…
We were addicted to Buffy…and finally, it went off the air (ALAS!) and we got the DVDs, and we can watch it whenever we want to, and mostly, we’re OK. We were addicted to West Wing (not like Buffy, but we did watch it every week…) and now, it’s gone away. This happens over the years…Thirtysomething, The X Files, 90210, etc. All of these shows, we love them, and they go away…and whenever they go away, I feel a great sense of relief…like, oh, good, one less show that I HAVE to watch, one less show that calls me, that I want to tape when I’m not going to be…

A Day in the Life
Back when I was about 21 years old, living in Stockton, I had a little red VW bug that I named “Jelly”. Jelly, by the way, was my nickname in High School for about 15 minutes when my best friend turned from another girl, Kelly, to say something to me, Julie, and it came out, “Jelly”. Thankfully, it didn’t stick. But anyway, it did stick for my car. Jelly was a great little car, Candy Apple Red, with a home installed rag top. She was a 1966, the same age as me (I was born the last day of ’65, but they make the ’66 cars in ’65 mostly, right?),…

What’s With All of the Stupid Spam?
Just looking at my spam filter, and it caught 355 spam comments. Since YESTERDAY, when there were over 200. That’s friggin INSANE. I don’t know how they found me or whatever, but it’s bad. I have a few ideas of what posts attracted them, but I don’t want to mention them, for fear of attracting even MORE. I’ll give you a hint. Nothing that interesting, just something about managing p*a*i*n in the noggin. I get a lot of spam now for pharmaceuticals. Ugh.

Page 123 Meme
OK, all of the cool kids are doing it, so I guess I’m in, too. 🙂 Here are the rules: 1. Find the nearest book. 2. Name the book & the author. 3. Turn to page 123. 4. Go to the fifth sentence on the page. Copy out the next three sentences and post to your blog. 5. Tag three more folks. Here goes: 1. Got it. Not going to use it, because it’s not really handy…it’s holding up my computer monitor. Cheap ergonomics, meant to get the monitor closer to eye level and reduce strain on my neck and upper back. Instead, I’ll use the book I’m reading right…

Misc. Friday Stuff
I was at an all day meeting at work yesterday, and it was interesting and fun, but I don’t talk about work on my blog, so that’s that. But, since I usually write my post the evening before, and post in the morning, I don’t have a lot of time to post much now. Gotta shower, get ready for school, walk the dog, etc. What to do? Just miscellaneous stuff, I think, is the way to go. Some of this stuff could easily be flushed out into long, serious posts of their own, but not today. 1. A piece of advice. If you don’t keep your glasses in the SAME PLACE…

East of Eden
I finished East of Eden last night. Whew, what a story. I can’t believe it took me almost a month (started on the 1st), but I guess that’s what makes it a Chunkster…that it takes awhile to read. What makes it a Classic, though, is not only the fact that it’s over 50 years old, but also that it’s famous, and accepted in literary circles as a great work. In case you haven’t read East of Eden yet, I’m going to highly recommend that you take a month out of your schedule and do so. This is a wonderful book, full of hope and love, pain and death, sex and…

Eat Some Pie
I could have left this until tomorrow, I thought of using this picture for a Wordless Wednesday post, since so far, I don’t have a post brewing in my head…unusual for me, I know. BUT, I would be remiss in my responsibilities, and I cribbed the picture from a bakery website anyway. Alas, I have probably put this off for too long, and my morning readers will not find out in time…but, if anyone is still out there, today is National Pie Day. So stop at the store on the way home, and get a pie. Or, if you’re that way, make a pie. Could be a Shepherd’s Pie for…
