Fabulous Fridays

My company is giving us a lovely benefit this summer, which is Fridays off from work, which they are calling ‘Fabulous Fridays’. I am loving it. On my first Fabulous Friday, I Got Things Done. I started by taking one of the cars in for an oil change, and while I waited for the car, I took Mulder for a walk downtown. It was a nice change from our normal daily walk around our neighborhood.

The car took about an hour longer than it should have, which caused me some stress, as I had a hair appointment at 11:00. Luckily, modern times means that I have my stylist’s number in my phone, and I texted her to keep her up to date. I got there by 11:30, and she was able to fit me in before her next client. Whew!

Now it’s August, and I have a month of Fab Fridays behind me, and another ahead of me. I had plans for each of the July Fridays, and I have plans for zero of the August Fridays, other than knowing that I will be getting my second booster on one of them. Blah. Here is how I spent the rest of my July Fridays:

  • I wasted one by going to the airport, trying to get an appointment for Global Entry, a service that I paid for but cannot use without said appointment. They are booked up for the next few years.
  • I went to lunch with an old coworker, whom I only seem to get together with when I have lots of extra time…need to change that, I really like her.
  • I went to visit my Great Aunt, who lives about an hour and a half away. That same day, I went to dinner with a friend who lives about 1/2 hour from my Great Aunt. Also stopped by and visited my paternal Grandma’s grave.
  • I took my lovely MIL to her favorite department store, Dillard’s, which is in my old hometown of Stockton. We then went and had a nice lunch in a neighboring town, Lodi, as my luck with Stockton restaurants is questionable. It was OK, but not great. My luck continues, I guess.

Soon I will bore you to tears with my plans for my upcoming trip to France, but right now I have to go start dinner. In the hope of posting more often, I am just going to push ‘publish’, rather than working on a longer post.

What a nice perk from your employer, which you can then pass on to others (like your handsome dog)!

Having plans vs Not having them is something I think a lot about lately. I tend to let a lot of time, hence entire days, fritter away lately unless I make specific plans. While I love unspoken-for time and its freedom, I tend to get directionless and lazy, and then feel guilty. I think it’s time for me to start having a bit of a plan worked into my days again.

I had forgotten that you were returning to France! That sounds wonderful. And Lodi is a terrific wine region. I’m sorry that the same could not be said for the restaurant you tried.
